HIS HOLINESS SRI SRI SUGUNENDRA THEERTHA SWAMIJI OF PUTHIGE MUTT, UDUPI
ARRIVED IN THE U.S.A

His Holiness Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puthige Mutt in Udupi
with four priests arrived in Washington Dulles international airport
recently and was warmly received by members of the organizing committee of
Cyber Madhwa Sangha. His Holiness presented to the devotees in the
airport a small pot of the holy Ganges water, prasadams of Sri Krishna
Temple in Udupi and a copy of Srimad Bhagavath Gita. His Holiness
performed worship of Sri Krishna in the traditional manner in a devotee's
home in the Washington D.C area and this was attended by a large
gathering. For the devotees, it was a rare privilege to participate in the
worship of Sri Krishna in the traditional Udupi style. The visit of
Puthige Mutt Swamiji is upon the invitation of Cyber Madhwa Sangha, which
has fully financed and made all arrangements for, Puthige Swamiji s visit.
In a short speech after the worship, His Holiness had observed that he had
come to the U.S.A for the main purpose of propagating the message of
Srimad Bhagavad Gita and to interact with devotees of Lord Krishna in this
country. He said that he was looking forward to inaugurate the Bhaktha
Sammelena Conference organized by Sri Venkateswara Temple in Pittsburgh on
August 30 and 31and meeting with devotees and scholars in various cities
in the U.S.A.
Cyber Madhwa Sangha is an Internet based intellectual group devoted to
discussions of the Philosophy of Realism of Saint Madhvacharya (13-14th
century). There are about 275 members in this group, mostly in the U.S.A,
who have advanced academic degrees and serving as doctors, engineers,
scientists etc in the U.S.A.
His Holiness is an erudite scholar in vedanta, shastras and scriptures.
He is the 30th pontiff of the 750 years old Puthige Mutt in Udupi, tracing
an uninterrupted lineage directly from Saint Sri Madhwacharya of 13-14th
century. His Holiness assumed sanyasa in his 12th year and is in this
ascetic order for more than 23 years.
Of the various philanthropic and spiritual projects initiated by His
Holiness, the Laksha Gita Lekhana Yajna, wherein more than a lakh of
people participated by writing Holy Bhagavad Gita, was a huge success. As
a monument to this success, a grand Gita Mandir was built in Udupi which
was inaugurated by the King of Nepal.
In the educational field, the Sri Puthige Vidya Peeta, under the direction
of His Holiness, is a well-recognized vedic institution imparting ancient
knowledge of India to the students in the traditional gurukula system.
His Holiness is staying at 115 Himalaya Drive, Monroeville, Pennsylvania
