Are there any Gay White guys that are followers of the Sikh faith in the UK
or openly Gay Sikh guys of Asian descent ?
There is a strong movement in the US for the gay Sikhi movement but little
in the UK. Gurdwaras seem to not be able to accept such a possibility in the
UK and often, I as the partner of my late Gay Punjabi Sikh am often expected
to spend my time within the Langar of the Gurdwara.
Based in the Midlands I am interested in hearing stories from other Gay
Sikhs in the UK as to the acceptability of being Sikh, and even that of
Amrita Sikhs whichever caste.

This is the first time i've visited this site and i've read some very
intresting points. Firstly, i have to say you cannot be gay and follow
the Sikh religion!!!!! God created man for woman and woman for man.
Secondly, to all the Sikh brothers out there i like to reply to the
issue that was being discussed earlier on about alocohal and hair. What
makes it right for a Sikh man who wears a turban to drink alocohal????
Yet, when a Sikh girl is seen drinking she automatically gets a label
attached to her. What really annoys me is when Sikh guys give so much
attitude to Sikh girls for either having cut hair or drinking when
really they should take a closer look at home. I'm a Sikh girl with cut
hair who does not drink or eat meat. But i'm the first to admit im not
perfect!!! I truely believe that alcohal influences an individuals
behaviour therefore its not right, but yet in Sikh families it is ok for
a male to drink. In Sikh religion its NOT.
To the guy whose gay. WHY?????
Do you follow the Sikh religion????
I dont believe you do because if you did you would know it's wrong!!!!
You certainly do have a chip on your shoulder don't you.
Firstly, I ask for fellow Gay Sikhs to contact me, you are not, but thank
you for your time.
Secondly, 99% of what you have written below has no relevance to any point I
was making you have merely used my questioning as a soap box for your own
views.
But to answer your questions....
'To the guy who is gay....WHY ???'
I presume you are asking me why I am gay ? That is not an issue I was
raising and anyway if I could answer that I would have the answer to
everything.
'Do you follow the Sikh religion????'
Yes I do, and not only as a gay guy but white and from a Christian
upbringing as well.
'I don't believe you do because if you did you would know it's wrong!!!!'
Many ways in our lives are wrong and against our teachings. I did not ask to
fall in love with a gay Sikh some 10 years ago, but I did, and in respect of
him, his family and way of life in Sikhism I learnt to read and follow the
Gurbani. Now a few years after his death I am able to stand proud as a Sikh,
be proud for me keeping your faith alive as many of your own brothers by
your own admission fail to.

Marc, there is a group of gay Sikhs in England which began a few months
ago, I think. They posted something on the egroup sikh-sewa. maybe if
you check out their archive you can find something from the group in the
last few months.
GurFateh!

Some might say you don't follow the Sikh religion because you cut your hair.
What is it they say about glass houses and throwing stones?
Unsubstantiated. There was discussion we had on this newsgroup (you
can search google) a few months ago about it. You may derive your own
value judgment whether homosexuality is OK or not, but Sikhism is
silent on this topic.

Bibi Sulkhpal Johal Ji, I sympathize with you and express my
disagreement at this double standard.
> I'm a Sikh girl with cut

OK, so you claim you are a Sikh and cut hair when there is a clear
injunction to not do so. But you pronounce that a Gay man cannot be a
Sikh when there is nothing stated about it in Sikhism!

Sukhpal, my FINAL comment to you on your comment below....
I notice you live in Coventry, I myself am just a step away down the road in
Leamington Spa, you are more than welcome to enter my Gurudwara with me here
at any time, please email me personally and I shall let you have my number,
I likewise would welcome a chance to accompany you to yours and look forward
to do doing so if you don't mind.
GurFateh,
Marc
