Mosque or Masajid or Masjid?

got another question for you guys. Met the imam of a local
place of prayer. The reason I am using " place of prayer" is because I am
not sure what the right terminology is. The imam said that " mosque " is a
wrong name because it does not come within the realm of Islam, it is a
french word. He said that the right terminology or name for an Islamic
place of worship is " masjid or masajid" . I have heard " masjid " before,but
never heard " masajid" before . Would anybody like to comment?

Depending on what language the Imam was speaking, his entire
proclamation may have been "wrong". :)

"Masajid" is the plural of "masjid".

The term 'mosque' comes from one of several possible romance language
words (Old French: mosquee, Old Italian: moschea, Old Spanish: mezquita).
The Arabic term is masjid (singular) or masajid (plural) and it is
derrived from the Arabic word sajada, to prostrate oneself or to worship.

wrong name. It is simply a translation of the Arabic word "Masjid", and I've
just looked it up in the dictionary (by 'telnet info.rutgers.edu' then choose
library, reference, dictionary from the menu):

use in English, too. "Masjid" is the Arabic word, which is probably more
correct to use. "Masajid", I think, is the plural of "Masjid".

it is plural of musjid.
