Q: Does ordinary white discharge break a woman's wudu?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the inspirer of truth. All praise is to Allah,
Most Merciful and Compassionate, and all blessings and peace to our
Master Muhammad, his family, companions, and those who follow them.
In the Hanafi school, the default is that anything that exists from
either private parts nullifies ritual ablutions (wudu), for both men
and women. Such things are also considered in themselves ritually
impure (najis). [Haskafi, Durr al-Mukhtar, 腺ab al-Ghusl']
This includes all female discharge, except one type. The discharge
that does not nullify ritual ablutions (wudu) and is considered
ritually clean (tahir) is the 祖hronic vaginal discharge' (rutubat
al-farj) that comes out normally and regularly, and is clear and not
discolored. Some scholars explain it to be akin to the 壮weating of
the vaginal walls.' When reasonably possible, one should renew one's
ritual ablutions in such cases. However, when it is difficult to do
so, such as at work or school, there is nothing wrong with following
this ruling. It is what is indicated by the words of Ibn Abidin, as
confirmed by the fuqaha.
It should be noted, again, though that all other discharge, even if
slightly discolored, nullifies ritual ablutions and is ritually
impure.
And Allah knows best.

Speaking as a nurse who has examined many women, some women's normal
vaginal secretion CAN be white. (I prefer to use the term secretion
rather than discharge, because discharge can imply illness). This
secretion is usually thin, but can vary in thickness. It should not
cause any itching, soreness or other irritation.
Many women often have a white secretion during most of the month, and
then a clear secretion at mid-cycle, which usually indicates that the
woman is ovulating, especially if this secretion is very elastic. Some
people use this change in secretion as a guideline to when to have
sexual relations to conceive a child, or conversely, to prevent
conception. (Natural Family Planning, sometimes called
jokingly "Vatican Roulette" because it is the only form of
contraception endorsed by the Catholic Church.)
I suggest that any woman who has a concern about whether her secretion
is normal or abnormal should consult a physician or other specially
trained practitioner such as a nurse practitioner, nurse midwife or
physician assistant (or whoever her country licenses for such
purposes) so she can have tests to confirm that no illness or
infection is present.
