A text was posted to this listing in July 1996 which discussed Muslim/Arab
contact with Native Americans. The author, Mahir Abdal-Razzaaq El,
stated that he is a Cherokee Muslim. I am interested in more information
regarding contact between Muslims, Arabs, and Native Americans
and would appreciate hearing about any other sources or, if possible,
corresponding with the author.

Thank you for your assistance.

In 1994 I saw a copy of the magazine "American Muslim" which had an
article suggesting that at least some followers of Native American
religions were "people of the book". And the book "American Jihad: Islam
in America after Malcolm X" contains a short "testimony" (to use a term
borrowed from Christianity) by a Native American woman who embraced Islam
and later compares Islam with her traditional beliefs.

I hope this helps some.

Salam

Gilberto
