Someone (mostly likely a Filipino person) may invite you to a "Bible
Study" or "Grand Evangelical Mission" (GEM) of the Church of Christ,
most often on a Saturday evening/night. This is NOT the same as the
Church of Christ many people are somewhat familiar with. It is a
little-known, but widespread CULT called "Iglesia ni Cristo", which
means "Church of Christ" in "Tagalog", the language of the
Philippines.
This is a worldwide church/cult, with thousands of members (98%
Filipinos) throughout many countries. Basically a man-made
church/cult, it is controlled by the MANALO Family in the Philippines.
Denying the Deity of Jesus Christ, teaching Salvation by Works (a LOT
of works) and severely controlling the lives of its members/adherents,
it was founded in 1914 by Felix MANALO - a Filipino man they
reverently claim is the "last messenger" of God - an actual angel sent
by God. Felix Manalo died (dead angel?), and passed control of the
vast church treasury and administration of church members to his son,
Erano MANALO, who is AGAIN, now passing control on to his son, Eduardo
MANALO - a "RICH" decision, to say the least.
The practices of this church are unbelievable, once a person is
"indoctrinated" and led into the deeper levels of deception. See the
Web site for many more details.
BEWARE of invitations to a Bible study at the "Church of Christ" -
the CULT of Iglesia ni Cristo.

For those who don't already know -- this is about the Boston Church of
Christ/International Churches of Christ. I agree with this guy's basic
opinion of them. I would recommend you look at several sites, though,
including theirs. Here are some good URLs:
Official ICC site: <http://www.icoc.org>
REVEAL site (opponents): <http://www.reveal.org>
TOLC site (opponents): <http://www.cults.nu>
I'd also recommend taking this discussion to the newsgroup
alt.religion.christian.boston-church, which is specifically about
the ICC, and where a lot of current and former members hang out
and talk. You'll learn more than you probably wanted to know
<wry grin>, but IMHO it is important that you do learn if you are
in contact with this group. I'm a former member of the religious
movement out of which the ICC came, and think it's dangerous.
