Bible Reading: Luke 22:31-34; Job 1:6-2:10
(http://bible.gospelcom.net/bible?Luke+22:31-34,Job+1:6-2:10)
Good day and may the peace of the Lord be with you, though you may have doubts,
worries and concerns.
"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat."-v31
Satan has to request permission to tempt us or cause us trouble. This is proof
of Jesus' complete control over all things including the evil one. It also
means that He sets boundaries or limits to how much we are to endure. This is
how God keeps His promise in that we will never be tested beyond our means. It
also means Jesus has the answer before we experience the problem. That is why
He should be the first we turn to in any situation.
"But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you
have turned back, strengthen your brothers." -v32
When we invited Jesus into our hearts making Him our Lord, we were given His
Spirit. In this way God lives in us and we in Him. Jesus' Spirit prays
continuously for that which we truly need, that usually being greater faith.
God is not entertained or pleased by our suffering and pain. However, He knows
it is through these experiences that our faith muscle is built bigger and
stronger and it is our faith in Him which pleases Him. Additionally, as we
grow stronger in our faith we are to share it with our brothers when they go
through similar tests and trials. These are our opportunities to show the love
and mercy our Father has shown us.
Everything we are and have, has been given to us by God, so He has the right to
take it back if He so desires. However, if the evil one takes it from us we
can and are to have the faith that the Lord will give us more and in greater
quantity if we remain faithful.
Some of us this very day are facing trouble, pain and sorrow, which we feel is
too much to handle. First off, don't give into that feeling. It is lying to
you. Secondly, cry out to Jesus for help and be comforted by those whose faith
was built upon that which you are going through.
There is nothing new under the sun. Whatever you are dealing with, no matter
how unique it seems, many of your brothers and sisters in Christ have
experienced it. They wait to be a blessing to you in your time of need. Do
not deny them this opportunity to serve you and God.
Where do we find our brothers and sisters in our time of need? In the very
place the evil one wants to make us too busy for ... church. Bless and be
blessed by getting to know your family.
God bless and be well.

This is one of those interesting passages that is so misleading in
modern english, but was clear in Early Modern (KJV) English. I will
show what I mean:
>
>"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat."-v31
Resorting to only _one word_ of Southerner' English, I can translate
this _much_ more accurate, namely:
>"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you all as wheat."-v31
>"But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you
>have turned back, strengthen your brothers." -v32
Resorting to only _two words_ of Early Modern English, I can translate
this _much_ more accurate also, namely:
>"But I have prayed for thee, Simon, that thy faith may not fail. And when thou
>hast turned back, strengthen your brothers." -v32
So in v31, the 'you' is PLURAL, but in v32, it is SINGULAR. Now
doesn't the whole passage (Lk 22:28-34) make much more sense when you
know this?
