Folks,
I no longer read UseNet often enough to be willing to pay the monthly/annual fee for the commercial moderation service for soc.religion.asatru. I no longer read UseNet often enough to be willing to put in the effort to move it to a free server. I have discussed this with the other members of the moderation team. Some of us are willing to continue checking the queue but none of the other members want to take over the payments and administrative functions.
If anyone with no trolling history wants to take over the payments and become the lead moderator, please contact me off group. After some arrangements you can have administrative access. Some or all of the current moderation team is willing to keep checking the queue if you want them to do that, so it comes with a team already in place. "Take over payments". Small UseNet experience is needed. Any other moderation experience helps.
If anyone with no trolling history wants to put in the effort to relocate the moderation service to a free system, please contact me off group. I can help you decide which free service and cooperate with changing the moderation addresses after you have the new service up and running. It would be up to you to decide if you want any of the current moderation team to move with you. "Build it yourself with sweat equity". Significant UseNet experience is needed to know how to deal with moderation software. Any other moderation experience helps.
When I asked in other forums, one of the responses was about moving the group to Facebook. If you wanted to move the group to Facebook when you read this you don't have the UseNet skills to consider taking over. But please do feel free to start up a Facebook group on Asatru. You don't need permission from anyone on UseNet to do that and the skills needed here won't help you there. Go for it.
If I don't get responses here, in a few months I will start the process of shutting down this newsgroup. It was a good run but with the steady decline in UseNet traffic that may be the right answer. Being the moderator of record and therefore the owner of the name soc.religion.asatru I would cooperate with anyone who wishes to start the group up again at any future period or veto anyone with a trolling history.
Hail Asgard!
