What's it matter who starts,
the poppies are out in my garden,
it's like a Monet painting.

You're right.
Sadly,I didn't start a garden this year.
You must have a beautiful view from what you've described
of your acreage. :)

It's lovely but could do with some landscaping, I've considered an open
wooden gazebo with a bench swing underneath.
How can you not start a garden? do you mean you didn't plant anything.

Not a thing. I wasn't feeling all that well at the start of growing
season so I decided not to. And now that I moved recently, there isn't
much room to grow anything. I do however have the livingroom full
with bamboo. lol

Thats lovely, I haven't got bamboo but mean to get some. I have really
tall palm & swiss cheese plants ('Monstera deliciosa' I think is apt-
yummy)
The cheese plant reminds me of Hemingway's "keep the Aspadistra Flying"

Hemingway? I thought it was Orwell. I could be wrong.

You're right, I googled it; I get Orwell & Hemingway confused, probably
because their books seemed similar to me & I read them around the same
time (late teens, early twenties)

i read the whole series and still go back sometimes ,
after that i moved on to The Hardy Boys

I haven't read much fiction for a long time, fairly recently: Lynne
Truss "talk to the face" because I liked her "eats shoots &leaves"
"Life of Pi" - Yann Martell because it won a price but I thought it was
so-so, 'Making History' Stephen Fry because I like Fry but he's not
really an author IMO. I love Harry Potter, especially reading it at
night to my youngest. What do you read?

Johnny Blaze

I never could get into Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew type stuff.
I liked reading old westerns by Zane Gray.

Mostly books written by Tom Clancy,"The Hunt for Red October",
"Patriot Games",etc. I've got almost his complete collection.
A few things by Asimov. And a collection of non-fiction by
various authors.

I used to love sci-fi & read nearly all of Asimov, liked the Dune
series (F,. Herbert) - they made one into a film which was
disappointing even with 'Sting' in it. Some Arthur C Clarke, and of
course Heinlein.

I love poppies... they make me think of my Mum :) She used to paint them,
and just before I had each of my children she bought me a huge bunch... I
often wondered if they had a labour inducing scent! ;)

Not nice & not called for IMO; and /why/ is it your response is timed 2
mins earlier than Kay's post?

Your Mum sounds nice. I have always wished I could paint pictures, I am
hopeless at Art.
I love poppies because when you look at them the blobs of red amongst
the grass really do look like Monet's little 'dabby' paintings & also
the feel of the petals is just like butterflies wings.
They make me think of the poem In 'Flanders Fields'
