My lodge is celebrating its 150th this year (Stanfield #217 AF&AM Grand
Lodge of Texas). I compiled a decent history of the lodge in 1995 that
goes from 1858 - 1919. I would like to expound on that history but I
really am a poor historic researcher. Any advice anyone could provide
would be great.

contact the Texas Lodge of Research. You might find a research paper
that helps fill in the gaps. Let me know if you need a contact name or
email.

The Texas Grand Lodge proceedings should contain the original
petition for a charter (check 1856 & 57) that may have many, if not
all, the names of the charter members. The custom then was for Grand
Secretaries to report on how the lodge performed while under
dispensation and then the act of consecrating the lodge and whether
the Grand Master or a proxy performed the ceremony. As you go through
the GL recoord, look for special honors, titles, or other acts such as
discipline that involved members or your lodge and see if you can
marry the information to you local lodge minutes.
Run prominent names through Google. You may find Wikepedia entries
of itnerest etc. I did this for my lodge and came up with the
political and military (both Mexican and Civil War) for many of those
who wre responsibile for starting our lodge. During the late 19th
Century, many lodges also ran ads for their events in the public
newspaper and a search at the library might prove informative.

A contact name would be great.
I sent an email to the main email address but a more specific person
might generate a better response.
