1. AUDIO ENGINEERING
Emmy award winner in 1988 for audio rebuild of Ted Turner’s Soviet film
acquisition “Letters From a Dead Man”. Senior audio engineer for Turner
Broadcasting’s entertainment division (WTBS/TNT) in Atlanta 1985-1990.

Designed audio flow for several global spacebridges with Gosteleradio/Moscow.
These involved simultaneous mixes for Soviet contribution, audience monitors,
interpreters, and moderator, as well as live mix for air.

Audio quality control engineer for 1986 (original) “Goodwill Games” from Moscow.

Audio flow designer for “The Jason Project”; 83 interactive television shows
produced live from a ship in the Mediterranean. Questions from children in 13
North American Museum sites were fed to research scientists shipboard for live
response.

Audio mix for North American contributions for BBC’s “World Safari” live
global telecast.

Recorded and mixed country and country/gospel albums while growing up in
Tennessee.

Senior Audio Producer for TM Productions / Dallas; supervised recording of
hundreds of radio commercials.

Maintained all kinds of recording studio gear: consoles, recorders, mikes,
cables, outboard gear.

Professional “ears”, evaluating digital audio coders for Dolby Labs and
RE America, producing reports and enhancement requests.

2. VIDEO PRODUCTION
Supervised construction of video production facility while in Tennessee; have
maintained color cameras, switchers, and videotape recorders.

Served as technical director on country music shows in Tennessee; while at
TBS, occasionally operated Chyron charactor generators, various videotape
recorders, Grass Valley switchers.

Wrote, edited, and produced a 13-minute sales presentation for EDnet this year.

3. SATELLITE SYSTEMS
Installed about 200 TVRO and SMATV systems, familiar with the sky, Ku and C
transponder configurations, SCPC, FM2, and subcarrier transmission systems,
receivers, modulators, filters, RF amplifiers.

Had Turner Teleport “in my back yard” at TBS in Atlanta, familiar with uplink
dishes, HPAs, polarization systems, backup power systems, etc.


4. SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

Fluently code in ‘C’, Informix 4GL, SQL, ESQL/C

Developer/sole coder of Turner Broadcasting/Turner Entertainment Broadcast
Film Library Database System; Atlanta 1990

Developer/sole coder of Turner Broadcasting/Atlanta Braves Sports Library
Database System; Atlanta 1989

Developer/sole coder of Turner Broadcasting Traffic Department Broadcast
Automation to BIAS system interface; Atlanta 1988

Developer/sole coder of Turner Production Music Library Database System;
Atlanta 1987

Developer/ first year sole coder of “GRID”: real-time profit & loss accounting
software used on the options trading floor at the Pacific Stock Exchange in
San Francisco, now used in New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago. This was a
three-year development cycle. I produced $60,000 in income to Informix
Software in 60 days first coding this project before being hired by the
trading firm; This application included real-time IPCs using datagram packets
to validate stock prices to the second; San Francisco 1991-1993

Former employee of Informix Software; consultant out at $200/hr $1000/day,
working on Ohio Bell’s DSX equipment database, medical imaging databases for
ADAC Labs, Northern Telecom’s Meridian System Database for Martin Marietta;
Menlo Park CA 1990

Client/Server applications development; wrote interfaces to real-time stock
ticker system using IP and IPC communications for trade accounting.


5. RELATIONAL DATABASE DESIGN / THEORY

Field applications engineer, field instructor of 4GL coding, relational
database theory while at Informix Software, worked with Informix’s Bill Hedge
to produce entity relationship diagrams for the Ohio Bell DSX project.

Designed and normallized model of entire securities industry for GRID system;
produced entity-relationship diagrams, program structure diagrams, and
hundreds of test SQL queries.


6. TELECOMMUNICATIONS

As technical head of EDnet, I have participated in the installation, in person,
of more than a dozen T-1 installations in offices, homes, and recording
studios for real-time CD quality audio transport.

I have been the technical liason between EDnet and WilTel, and have become
intimately familiar with WilTel technical procedures.

I have set up channel banks, DSU/CSUs, ISDN TA’s, and 45 MB video codecs. I
also worked at the Pacific Bell ISDN testing lab in Dublin, California to
perform protocol testing on the EDnet International VideoFax System/ North
American port for AT&T & Northern Telecom DMS-100 switches.

I have also been the technical interface for the machine control and Dolby
AC-2 audio transport on Pacific Bell’s ABVS 45MB video service, and at the
recent NAB show, I set up the equipment to demonstrate these services in the
Alcatel, AT&T, EDnet, and Dolby booths.

I am familiar with ISDN protocols, inverse multiplexing, and switches.

I have physically installed digital audio transmission circuits in Sony
Music’s headquarters in New York, Sony Studios in New York, Steven Bochco’s
office suite in Century City (NYPD Blue), Pacific Ocean Post in Santa Monica,
Capitol Records in Hollywood, A&M Records in Hollywood, Hollywoood Recording,
L.A. Studios, The Village Recorder, Skywalker Sound, Music Annex San Francisco;
TLA San Francisco; Keller & Cohen, Sausalito; film director Robert Zemeckis’s
home, Montecito, CA; as well as trade shows in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and
New York.


7. RF

Scanner, shortwave, and satellite communications enthusiast; familiar with RF
spectrum & allotments; antenna and transmission line theory, modulation
principles (digital and analog), spread spectrum systems (Cylink).

8. COMPUTER NETWORKING

Set up Cisco, NetBlazer, TransWare and FastPath routers and gateways.
Registered with Defense Department Network Information Center (JW 186);
Internet expert; have set up domain name servers, registered TCP/IP network
numbers and domain names; built firewalls for internet security. Administrated
various e-mail systems, built mail gateways.

Worked with University of Melbourne, Australia to port AUFS (Apple’s Unix File
Server) and CAP (Columbia’s AppleTalk Protocol) to SCO System V UNIX;
facilitated transparent UNIX and AppleTalk network co-existence; set up
IP-talk (AppleTalk encapsulation) and provided Unix postscript printing, via
AppleTalk to Apple LaserWriters.

Ethernet debugging; ARP resolution/packet tracing; TCP/IP routing table
debugging.

Software development for socket (client/server) applications for securities
evaluation with Macintosh front ends and Unix hosts.


9. UNIX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION

Loaded software and physically assembled component hardware for Turner
Entertainment’s Library Database system: established backup procedures,
managed user accounts, configured workstation and mass storage hardware.

Loaded operating system and physically assembled component hardware (multiple
systems) for GRID trade accounting system; established backup procedures,
managed user accounts, administrated Usenet news server, managed Internet
connectivity and ftp servers; loaded and upgraded system software; maintained
terminal servers, modem, terminal, and telnet access.


10. GRAPHIC ARTS / TYPOGRAPHY

Designed about 200 4-color record album jackets; worked with engravers (color
separators) and printers; I still keep abreast of current trends in graphic
design, corporate image, and packaging design. I have designed a complete font
collection for EDnet and have created a font (a heavily modified Frutiger)
specifically for EDnet product names; it is used in the EDnet logo and
advertising. I have also turned the EDnet logo into a TrueType font for ease
of use from any user application.

I have worked with Dave Gustafson, EDnet’s VP of Markerting, to develop the
end camera-ready artwork for trade advertising and trade show graphics.

11. PHOTOGRAPHY / PHOTO LAB

Avid photographer / videographer; familiar with color and black and white
photo-lab and darkroom techniques; have performed manual C-22 and E-6
processing; manual color printing (reversal and negative).

12. MANUFACTURING/MAINTENANCE

Built steam/hydraulic/water timer control system for audiophile phonograph
record manufacturing; physically repaired and rebuilt vinyl extruders,
trimmers, album jacket fabrication equipment; repaired hydraulic record
presses; re-ground and metal-filtered vinyl trim. High-pressure boiler
maintenance/steam pipe & hose inspection, fitting, and replacement.

13. MUSIC EDITING

Served as senior audio producer for TM Productions, Dallas; edited random
length orchestral compositions into commercial length :60/:30/:20/:10 versions;
editor for the first 21 CDs of the Manhattan Production Music Library;
assisted in music selection for thousands of TBS/CNN on-air promos as well
as episodes of “World of Audubon” and “Portrait of America”.


14. MUSIC COMPOSITION

Composed and orchestrated string and brass arrangements for radio commercial
music; produced lead sheets for music copyrights; generated composer requests
for custom production music while at TM Productions in Dallas.


15. VOICE CASTING AND DIRECTION

While at TM, I directed national voice talent on many radio commercials and
promotional presentations, including Ernie Anderson, Norman Rose, Jo Haden,
and Charlie Van Dyke. I recently directed Mark Keller (currently Chevrolet’s
national ad voice and Bank of America’s commercial voice) in EDnet’s NAB
video presentation.

I have also cast voice talent on dozens of commercial scripts produced by TM,
many of which have aired nationally.


16. VOICE TALENT

I have worked as an on-air radio personality; one of my first jobs was on-air
work. I may pursue it again someday...
