Roanoke, Virginia (September 24, 1997)
Belk at Valley View Mall is the site of busts everyday. They arrest a
minimum of 10 per day!!
Lakeland, Florida (September 23, 1997)
Caution should be used at Saddlecreek Park. Undercover cops made another
bust recently, arresting about 10 guys.
Nashville, Tennessee (September 23, 1997)
Hamilton Creek Park is being closely watched by police. They will walk
into the woods via the trails and arrest you for anything resembling
improper activity (i.e. indecent exposure, solicitation, etc.) They are
watching most of the Metro Nashville area parks.
Lincoln, Nebraska (September 23, 1997)
There has been many arrests made at Van Dorn Park this summer and
undercover cops are working hard there. At the 56th street rest-area along
insterstate 80, outside of Lincoln, the state patrol have been questioning
people and running I.D.'s (I know, I was questioned one night passing
through!!!)
Grand Island, Nebraska (September 23, 1997)
2 arrests at Ashley park (Just north of Veterans hospital on capital and
broadwell streets). Activity is now slow there.
Williamsburg, Virginia (September 23, 1997)
Beware cruising at William & Mary Campus Center. They have started to
police area recently. A friend of mine was entrapped there last week.He
wasn't arrested, but was given a trespassing warning. A photo of him was
taken and will be kept on file for 2 years.
Hagerstown, Maryland (September 22, 1997)
The I-70 rest stop going south near Hagerstown has police undercover
patroling the area looking to catch guys. Some have been arested.

Clearwater/Tampa, Florida (September 21, 1997)
Courtney-Campbell Causeway between Clearwater and Tampa should be avoided
right now. I have driven by there 3 or 4 times in the past couple of weeks
and on two occasions I have noted police cars with men in custody.
Memphis, Tennessee (September 20, 1997)
A man was found strangled to death on the Overton Park Golf Course on
September 17. This golf course is adjacent to a cruisy area of the park.
The news stated that the man, in his late 20's, had been dead since 10
pm-2 am the previous night. Apparently the dead man was gay.
Seattle, Washington (September 20, 1997)
I was cruising Volunteer Park last night and got into a hot scene with a
couple of guys when we suddenly realized it was 11:00 pm, park closing
time. The cop cars coast down the slope on the west side of the park, the
most active area, and then turn their search lights on. They spotted
someone and recklessly backed up the hill, almost hitting one guy, then
sped south, pursuing their prey. One cop jumped out of the car and yelled
"fag" and then ran after the suspect. He even pulled his gun. Luckily, I'd
parked outside the park so was able to chill and watch the whole thing
without having to worry about getting ticketed. The cops here have turned
very, very ugly. The so-called liberal chief is a real homophobe.
Columbus, Indiana (September 20, 1997)
Driftwood quarries/fishing area isn't safe. Three arrests were made
9/18/97 and names published in the paper. The arresting officer was quoted
as saying "This was just a spot check. We ran a sting here in 95, that ran
most of them off. We will continue with spot checks just to keep them on
their toes". The MO was to use a young conservaton officer in the area of
the restroom to catch guys exhibiting themselves or soliciting partners.
Tampa, Florida (September, 20, 1997)
The infamous Playhouse Theater was busted (which is a place that's REALLY
always hopping). Apparently, rumour has it, they pay the local pigs 10K a
month to stay the hell away, but they didn't honor it this time. They
busted the place, (normally 30-50 guys in here) and only got 6, as the
rest got away due to lack of manpower to arrest everyone.
Virginia Beach,Virginia (September 19, 1997)
The Hampton Roads region has active vice squads of dozens of cops who
rotate in and out of "fag detail." Some are young, cute guys with a
military look, who pose as bait for the large concentration of gay
servicemembers stationed in the area. Indeed, when I've gone to court to
cover these arrests (cruisemaster: our source is a reporter), I see many a
man in uniform awaiting sentencing. But there are also more than a few
really skanky vice cops who work the parks and the bathrooms at Lynnhaven
Mall and Military Circle Mall. In Virginia, they will arrest you for a
felony, bargain it down to a misdemeanor, and release you with a fine and
a black mark on your record. Most men are so terrified of arrest that
they'll plead guilty to a lesser charge. Don't!!
The tactics of vice cops are usually incredibly raw. They don't miranda,
sometimes they don't even bother to place you under arrest. I've had
friends beaten up by the cops here. Be careful. They're all trained in
"homosexual courtship rituals" and they're very by-the-book. If you see a
cute guy rubbing his crotch and asking you what you like to do, listen to
that little voice inside your head that says "It's too good to be true."
Longwood, Florida (September 18, 1997)
Local police are currently working under cover stings at the Big Tree Park
area. There are young officers working the wooded area's and monitoring
the rest room area's.
Staten Island, New York (September 17, 1997)
The police have been cruising the parking lots and the beach area at South
Beach Park giving summonses for loitering for the purposes of sexual
activities. Although a fightable offense, the majority of men who utilize
this venue are married and will not fight the charges. Be careful!!
Nacogdoches, Texas (September 17, 1997)
At Stephen F. Austin University, the Nursing and Math building recently
had a bust where 4 men where caught in the middle of homosexual
intercourse in the 1st floor bathroom.
Los Angeles, California (September 17, 1997)
This from the USC Daily Trojan newspaper on September 9, 1997:
"OBSCENE ACTIVITY--A nude male was reported masturbating and
propositioning men in a restroom in the third floor of the Student Union
around 3:40 p.m. Thursday. DPS officers located the male, arrested and
transported him to the Southwest Jail."
Norwalk, Connecticut (September 17, 1997)
The Norwalk police are citing people parked in the commuter parking lot
off the Merrit Parkway at exit 38 for "illegal parking" ($60.00). They
arrive daily in packs of two or three patrol cars, detaining and ticketing
anyone who is in the lot. This is blatant harassment as they will give
tickets only to individuals they suspect are there for reasons other than
parking, never mind whether they are doing anything or not, whereas
couples who use the lot for other than parking purposes are ignored.
Anyone who has been so cited and wants to fight back please e-mail to

prepared.
Seattle, Washington (September 16, 1997)
Freeway park in downtown Seattle is getting very dangerous. Cops have
finally caught on about the various "hidden" spots throughout the park.
They are conducting sweeps late at night (after 11:00 pm) on bike and with
plainclothes. Also, fences have been erected, shrubs and vegetation have
been cleared and more powerful and brighter lighting has been installed. I
can no longer recommend this once cruisy park.
Milpitas, California (September 15, 1997)
I was in the restroom at Media Play in the Great Mall, when the managment
was informed from other employees that sexual activity had been ocurring
in the restrooms. I and my friend were arrested by the Milpitas Police,
and booked under inappropriate behavior and lewd acts of behavior in
public.
Weston and Waltham, Massachusetts (September 15, 1997)
Beware that Riverside Park in Weston and Norumbega Road Bird Feeding Park
in Waltham are very heavily patrolled. I have known many guys that have
been arrested in both places. The cops are notorius for harrassment for
just parking, and for blatantly baiting guys & arresting them.
Union, New Jersey (September 15, 1997)
Watch out for undercover police on the Garden State Parkway. I was using
the bathroom at the MacDonalds (Union Rest Area ). I was there a few
minutes when a couple of guys walked in and out, but there was nothing
going on. I decided to leave. When I left an undercover cop flashes his
badge and tells me I am under arrest for indecent exposure.
Randolph, New York (September 14, 1997)
On the 11PM news 9/13/97 it was announced that undercover cops have been
asked by the State Patrol to help check for activity at the rest stop in
the Southern Tier - namely Hwy 17 - for sexual activity. Even though sex
is good at both locations, be careful.
Sandy Hook, New Jersey (September 14, 1997)
The cops have been making a lot of arrests at the dunes.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (September 14, 1997)
Police in downtown Juneau Park have been reported coming out of bushes
late at night carrying "binoculars." It's assumed this is night vision
equipment the Milwaukee Police Department was originally given by the
federal government to fight drug dealers. People caught in the park after
10 pm, even if only walking, are given $141 tickets for tresspassing. In
contrast, under a different jurisdiction in another Milwaukee park, the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel of 8/28/97 reported that two 19-year-old women
and an 18-year-old man who were found naked in the park after the 10 pm
closing time were merely given warning tickets. Juneau Park is a known gay
venue, while the other park is not, so the naked swimmers were presumably
assumed to be heterosexuals.
Tampa, Florida (September 12, 1997)
MacKay Bay Park. Beware of plainclothes cops, posing as gay guys, Several
pals have been taken in. One guys paid $840.00 in court fees and fines,
and another 9 days in jail. These cops will lie and have their partner
swear to seeing you do things you have not done.
Long Beach, California (September 11, 1997)
Regarding the parking lot across from Ripple's (aka Granada Lot), one
night a couple of frat boys in a red Toyota pickup with a tool chest
mounted on it hasseled a kid. They were posing as undercover cops. They
forced him to the ground face down and yelled at him, scaring the kid half
to death. I called the cops who came and questioned the ugly frat boys,
but of course, they were let go.
Another evening (a Saturday night at about 2:15 am) I was walking to enter
the lot and a spotlight was shone on me (and anyone else approaching) from
a house across the street at the intersection of Ocean and Roycroft (house
address is 4621 E Ocean Blvd.). I waved to them and went on my way, but
they continued their light show. Finally, I walked to the front door of
their house and took down the address.
A friend of mine was arrested in the tearoom for lewd conduct. When he
told the judge he was able to identify the cop's dick, the charge was
reduced to disturbing the peace.
Hayesville, North Carolina (September 9, 1997)
Two people were arrested for indecent exposure and solicitation of sodomy
near the eastern overlook, west of Franklin, on highway 64. The arresting
officer, a US Forest Service employee, lured the two men to an area just
west of the overlook in order to entrap them at a federally regulated
area. Both names and addresses were published in the local newspaper and
one of the men lost both of his jobs, including one with that same
newspaper.
Berkeley, California (September 9, 1997)
UC-Berkeley Barrows Hall basement men's room is under police surveillance
and arrests are being made. Too many complaints to the police about the
activity there -- guys who made a pass at anyone who walked in there have
ruined a good thing for everyone.
Revere, Massachusetts (September 9, 1997)
One morning, about 4 o'clock, I was harrassed by state police. The cops
made me think they were having sex a the end of the wall. As soon as I
made a move closer, they shined the flash light in my face.
Fresno, California (September 8, 1997)
It was reported in the Fresno Bee that the police are now setting up traps
in the Roeding Park area after dark, when most cruising occurs. City
council states that it may close the park at sunset. Too many 'straight'
persons have complained to the park officials and to the police.
Pennsylvania, statewide (September 8, 1997)
I have it on good authority that the attorney general's office is going to
mount a raid on bookstores in Pennsylvania in the next two weeks. This
would be a good time to play it safe.
Boston, Massachusetts (September 7, 1997)
At the Back Bay MBTA (subway and train) station men's room, the MBTA
police are arresting guys.
Camden, Arkansas (September 6, 1997)
At the roadside park outside Camden, there have been several raids by the
local sheriff's office in the last few weeks.
Ocala, Florida (September 6, 1997)
Pine Avenue is now heavily patrolled by police. The Ocala Police
Department has undercover cops, both male and female along a 2 mile
stretch from Silver Springs Boulevard (SR-40) south to Maricamp Road (17th
Street), posing as hustlers/prostitutes. Very elaborate sting operation in
place, lots of unmarked cars in use. They start at 5 pm and continue until
midnight several days a week. Pine Avenue is also known as US Highways
441, 301, and 27, and in the city limits its speed is restricted to 35
mph, so it is an ideal place to cruise. Remember: he is too good to be
true. He's a cop!!
Buffalo, New York (September 5, 1997)
Police undercover agents have entrapped people in both Como and Ellicott
Park. Also, the restrooms at Sears in Galleria Mall. Be very careful.
Richmond, Virginia (September 5, 1997)
I have been cruising Forest Hill Park for a couple of years and in the
past 6 months or so, undercover cops have busted many people. There are
still lots of cruisers there, just beware of the undercover cops.
Also, there is a gloryhole at the Sears store at Regency Square Mall.
Avoid it at all costs. I had a friend who was busted recently. Apparantly,
he was sucking a guy off, when an undercover cop (who was hiding in a
nearby stall) kicked in the door and caught them in the act. They were
both hauled down the the security office, but luckily were not arrested.
They were, however, banned from the mall for life.
Austin and Del Valle, Texas (September 5, 1997)
Dell Valley Store on Highway 71, was subjected to a sting operation in
late August. Also 12 guys were recently arrested at Austin Six.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (September 3, 1997)
There was a police raid in late July at Trosper Park. A total of 17 men
were arrested and charged with "offering to engage in lewd acts." Their
names, ages and addresses were printed in the local newspaper. One of the
men arrested was a school teacher and the press (newspaper and TV) had a
"field day" with pushing his story. The cops interviewed made it sound as
if they would be back in the near future, hoping to make more arrests.
Hagerstown, Maryland (August 31, 1997)
Be very careful at and around the bookstore in the first block east of the
square! This is especially true after dark in the parking lot behind the
store. Since March two guys were killed there and who knows how many have
been robbed and beaten up.
Sacramento, California (August 30, 1997)
Sacramento police arrested 25 men over three days in Del Paso Park, at
Watt Avenue and Interstate 80, in early August. The arrests were widely
reported on local TV news and in the Sacramento Bee. The names of those
arrested were not printed in The Bee though.
Sacramento police then contacted MGW, one of Sacramento's gay newspaper's,
and told them that arrests would soon begin at Sacramento's other primary
outdoor cruising spot, "The Beach" off of 10th and Richards Blvd, along
the south bank of the American River. The newspaper printed a warning in
their August 15 edition.
I haven't heard of arrests at The Beach yet, but uniformed officers have
been seen riding mountain bikes along the top of the levee, and private
security guards have been stopping men late at night, copying down their
license plates, and requesting to see ID. Probably best to stay away for
the time being.
Los Angeles, California (August 30, 1997)
Highland Park can become extremely dangerous after dark. This area has a
high rate of gang activity and I know of individuals who have even had
guns pulled on them.
Urbana, Maryland (August 30, 1997)
The I 270 overlook, was the scene of a big bust, and 10 guys were arrested
on August 29 according to the Frederick Post. The police promise to
continue in other rest areas around the area.
Pomona, California (August 29, 1997)
At the Paradise Bookstore the police are really cracking down. They visit
a couple times a day, and arrests are becoming the norm.
Edgemont, Pennsylvania (August 29, 1997)
Ridley Creek State Park. For the last 4-5 years, State Rangers and
sometimes State Police have been cracking down, big time, on gay action in
this large park off of state route 3 between Philadelphia and West
Chester. Rnagers in plain cloths run into the bushes and woods to try to
catch guys doing their thing. They've been known to lie in front of the
District Justice and threaten men with exposure if the guy doesn't just
pay his fine (usually about $400). There have been raids where the names
of all men arrested were published in in the local press. There is action
to be had here, but guys please be very careful.
Williamsport, Pennsylvania (August 29, 1997)
The cops are heavily patrolling the rest area (scenic overlook) in
Williamsport. I was there last Friday night and the cops were going to
every car and telling people that the rest area closes at dusk, although
there are no signs posted to tell you this. Also, there is a small rest
area just south of this one where cops are making arrests after dark.
Frederick, Maryland (August 29, 1997)
The Manor Area in Cunningham Falls State Park has seen guys getting
arrested.
San Francisco, California (August 28, 1997)
There are active, ongoing busts with hotel security ( a real
holier-than-thou, loud and threatening chief of security) joining forces
with the police at Hyatt Embarcadero.
Venice, Florida (August 27, 1997)
Casperson Beach is being patrolled by cute young sheriffs officers. They
literally hide in the bushes. A friend of mine was recently arrested there
and hauled off in handcuffs and shackles for "exposure of sexual organs."
My friend tells me that there was no one within 1/2 mile of him and he
decided to change out of his wet bathing suit into his shorts. As soon as
he had his bathing suit off he heard a voice say "You're under arrest."
Thus far it has cost him $1500.00, plus his name, address, and occupation
were published in 3 papers.
Fresno, California (August 27, 1997)
The Fresno Bee recently carried two reports of multiple arrests in Roeding
Park. The reports sited arrests in the evening and at night.
Cumberland, Rhode Island (August 27, 1997)
Local PD officers are cruising and walking through Diamond Hill State Park
attempting to be solicited. A couple of the guys are wearing short cut
offs and black boots and look real cute.
Nampa, Idaho (August 25, 1997)
I was in Boise, Idaho 2 weeks ago and plastered all over the paper and on
the local tv news were the faces of 6 men and one 17 year-old arrested for
public sex. The park was called Lakeview, located in Nampa, a small town
about 10 miles from Boise.
San Diego, California (August 25, 1997)
The police are actively patrolling the north end of Blacks Beach due to
numerous complaints about men having sex in the bushes [Webmaster: we
might add that those bushes can't be seen by anyone without going way out
of your way.]. So far, the police haven't arrested anyone. They are mainly
attempting to deter any sexual activity. But, as usual, they say nothing
about the sexual activity of the heterosexuals further south on the beach.
Charlottesville, Virginia (August 25, 1997)
The Ivy Creek natural area has been the scene of plain clothes busts
recently. I spoke to a cop friend that says these efforts will continue.
Pasadena, California (August 25, 1997)
As I was walking in the tearoom in the Administration Building at Pasadena
City College this past Friday, the Campus Police were already there asking
someone to come out of the stall. I didn't stick around to see the
outcome.
Chicago, Illinois (August 24, 1997)
At the downtown campus of DePaul University (25 East Jackson campus),
security has been tightened on all tearooms due to a rape of a female
student in the women's restroom about a week ago. Security's been stopping
by for spot-checks very frequently!
Cleveland, Ohio (August 23, 1997)
The Cleveland Metropark police have been arresting men found cruising for
sex in all of the Cleveland metro parks, including Tiedeman/Memphis park
as well as the North Chagrin Reservation. The arrests number in the
hundreds, and in fact, there seems to be a cop out there who has even
assaulted a couple of the guys he has arrested. This has been reported in
the Gay Peoples Chronicle. It's a Mayoral election year here.
Reno, Nevada (August 23, 1997)
Idlewild park restroom has become the scene of an undercover sting
operation. A cute cop, in his 20's, is hanging out arresting guys after
soliciting for sex.
Nashua, New Hampshire (August 23, 1997)
Greeley Park has become very risky. Police have an undercover plant
cruising and looking to entrap people. No longer worth the risk.
Cincinnati, Ohio (August 23, 1997)
University of Cincinnati, especially Teacher's College, is under scrutiny!
Campus security is watching, and asking for student ID's. I'm actually a
student and was kept for almost 5 minutes, even though I was only walking
through the hall on Saturday. Watch out!
Sarasota, Florida (August 22, 1997)
The 10th Street ramps are being cruised by cops so tell the public to
aware to that.
Towson, Maryland (August 21, 1997)
I just wanted to let you know that Towson University in greater Baltimore
has started to really come down hard on the activity on campus. They
busted me in the Towson Center.
Glendale, California (August 20, 1997)
The Glendale Newspaper is listing people being arrested in the Glendale
Mall JC Penny tearoom.
Miami, Florida (August 20, 1997)
Miami Beach police detectives went undercover recently at the Boardwalk
club and arrested 21 men on charges including lewd and lascivious
behavior, exposure of sexual organs, possession of drugs, and battery. The
battery charges, according to a statement from the police department, were
because, "In a few cases the detectives themselves were battered when some
of the individuals approached and began groping the investigators'
bodies." The lewd behavior which made up the bulk of the charges, again
according to police, consisted of staff and customers exposing themselves
and allegedly masturbating themselves or other men "in an open area."
Phoenix, Arizona (August 19, 1997)
Police just busted a bunch of men at Paradise bookstore/video, often an
active spot in the back of the theatre.
Hopkinton, Massachusetts (August 19, 1997)
The old cruising area off Rafferty Road next to Hopkinton State Park is
being very heavily patrolled by uniformed and plain clothes cops. Stay out
of there unless you are going in to go fishing or put your boat in the
water. All arrests are being published in the Hopkinton Crier and the
Middlesex News.
Clearwater, Florida (August 19, 1997)
Bay Area Outlet Mall has many undercover sheriff patrolling the bathrooms.
They give no warnings, hauling you off to jail right away.
Dallas, Texas (August 18, 1997)
Preston Towne Mall (aka Prestonwood Mall) is a VERY popular hangout for
cops. Many of them go there on their lunch break, and you can often see as
many as four or five cruisers (police cruisers--not the good kind of
"cruisers") lined up outside the J.C. Penny entrance to the mall. This
place may not be the best location for messing around.
Washington, DC (August 18, 1997)
Be very careful at George Washington University. The campus police know
what goes on here and are watching with eyes you can't see. I've seen
campus police watching from outside the upper levels and inside. This
place makes me nervous.
Raleigh, North Carolina (August 18, 1997)
Raleigh police, with the blessing of the Wake County District Attorney
(election year!), have raided at least 4 of the adult bookstores in town.
There were articles in the local paper, but no information on the number
of arrests.
Spring Valley, California (August 17, 1997)
On Saturday, August 9, approximately 10 - 15 patrons of the
Fantasyland/Foxy Lady theaters were escorted out of the theaters by
uniformed officers. A young, handsome plainclothes officer was present
from about 9 - 10 pm, observing activity intently. He left, to return at
about 10:30 p.m. with uniformed officers, revealing his status by pointing
out those to apprehend.
San Francisco, California (August 17, 1997)
Baker Beach, the section directly next to the Golden Gate Bridge, has
rangers video taping and arresting gay beach comers.
Cape May, New Jersey (August 16, 1997)
I just got back from Higbee Beach where the rangers had arrested some guys
down in the gay section closer to 7 pm for discreet sex on the beach. The
cruising area in the woods to the right of the only summer parking lot is
now posted so you risk a $1000 fine.
Atlanta, Georgia (August 16, 1997)
I was sitting outside the Chemistry Building at Emory today and a police
car pulled up. The officer got out of his car and I walked off. The
officer harrassed me and issued a criminal trespass warning to me.
Providence, Rhode Island (August 15, 1997)
The patrol is on again at River Road again near the Brown University Boat
House.
Concord, New Hampshire (August 15, 1997)
The park along the Merrimack River is now very dangerous. Police are all
over the place. I was carded and told to stay away after being caught in
the woods not in any act. Both uniforms and plainclothes are active there
now.
Annapolis, Maryland (August 15, 1997)
Police have been active at 20/20 books, West Avenue. Two major stings in
the last month, have resulted in arrests for exposure, indecent assault,
and 4th degree assault.
Charlottesville, Virginia (August 14, 1997)
Lee Park (downtown off of Court Square). A local man was recently
abducted, tortured, robbed, and left for dead in the trunk of his car by
three young gay bashers. All three are now in jail, but this is not the
first instance of gay bashing associated with the Lee Park crowd. No sign
that the local police have increased patrol of the area, but cruise at
your own risk.
Dallas, Texas (August 12, 1997)
Recently I was coming out of the Brick at about 1:30 AM and there were at
least two Dallas PD cars out front taking people away in cuffs from the
sexclub, Stogies. It looks like the place was raided. You might want to
alert people in Dallas and especially unsuspecting visitors that the fact
that it is supposed to be a private club doesn't seem to matter to the
police.
Los Angeles, California (August 12, 1997)
Boelter 5269, UCLA, has been the site for recent vice arrests, with two
plain clothes officers working together.
Hilton Head, South Carolina (August 12, 1997)
I have to report that just this past week, the police were spotted hiding
out in the wooded area of Pinkney Island Park with binoculars and
recording equipment, looking to entrap those of us unsuspecting, who have
for the past two years enjoyed the "nature" walks on the island. This is
the island with the parking area, which has been cruisy near the right
side of the parking area.
Swansea, Massachusetts (August 12, 1997)
Lots of police visits lately to the rest area. Some of the woods have been
trimmed back to expose areas to view.
Atlanta, Georgia (August 12, 1997)
Belvedere Theatre, Decatur, has been targeted recently in a police sting.
Stay away for awhile!

In LBJ Park the police (U.S. Park Service) are still harassing guys. I
have seen all sorts of different modus operandi. They have used young,
hunky plainclothes guys stationed at the urinals in the park restroom.
They suddenly drive their patrol cars off the roadways and into the
forested areas where the action happens. The best advice is to run and not
stop when they tell you to. They have nothing to charge you with, and even
have cooked up a bogus rule that after dark you cannot walk off the paved
pathways.

In the last week, 4 men have been arrested in restrooms on the campus of
Miami University. Among those arrested were 2 college professors, a
guidance counselor, and a visitor from Iowa. If you are heading back to

Vista Point is about to become dangerous. I overheard officials speaking
of this place. They're enraged that this activity has been taking place
"under their noses"--so to speak--without their knowledge. Apparantly
nobody sent them an invitation. The crackdown is about to begin, and will
consist of both general harassment as well as upgraded enforcement.

Conway Robinson State Park has made the front page of a local Manassas
newspaper in July for problems with sex activity and drugs, and has been
selected for stepped up police presence. Police patrol and take license
tags of frequent visitors and harass anyone seen in the park on a regular
basis.
Kingsburg, California (August 9, 1997)
The Kingsburg rest area on US 99, south of Fresno is being patrolled by
the police. Measures have been made to cut down on cruising, and the walls
in the pavillions have been eliminated.
Covington, Kentucky (August 9, 1997)
Duvue Park. On August 8th there were 5 uniformed police officers
patrolling the trails. At this point I don't know of any arrests that have
been made as it appears they are just chasing people away and warning
them.

I have seen several arrests in the Rambles this summer. The men are taken
down to the police station, so it is not just a matter of a simple summons
if you are caught.

A San Diego police undercover operation in Marian Bear Memorial Nature
Park last night resulted in the arrest of eight men in connection with a
variety of illicit sexual activity, police said. Police said more arrests
were expected and the operation was to continue. The initial arrests were
made after officers observed men committing sexual acts or soliciting
sexual acts in the restroom, a parking lot, hiking trails and pathways
during day and night hours, police said. Police said the men, if
convicted, would have to register as sex offenders.

Georgia State University is very dangerous these days. Our inside source
sent us this:
"9:06 a.m.. August 6, 1997. An arrest was made, on the charges of Sexual
Battery, Obstruction of Officer, and Criminal Trespass Warning by an
university officer. The plain-clothes officer was asked by a male subject
to follow him into a small restroom on the fifth floor of library north.
The officer followed the subject into the restroom. Once inside the
subject felt the officer's chest and crotch area. The officer identified
himself and the subject tried to run away. The subject was apprehended and
placed under arrest, processed, given a criminal trespass warning, and
transported to Fulton County Jail."

A raid took place on August 1 at Florida State University in the Bellamy
building. I'm not sure why the FSU police has started to crack down at
this place, other than the fact that someone had recently started making a
couple of new gloryholes in one of the formerly "normal" bathrooms.

Conway-Robinson State Forest has been the subject of scrutiny lately by
both Virginia State Police and the Prince William County Police. Much of
the brush that previously concealed cruisy activity has been cleared out
to increase visibility from the highway. Police have been stopping daily
and harassing visitors, asking their purpose in visiting the park, saying
they have gotten complaints of drug and homosexual activity. An article
appeared this week in the local paper. On July 31, a Trooper Buchanan of
the VSP told me that the effort was going to go beyond the annual
harrasssment efforts, and that there would be undercover officers assigned
and arrests begining the week of August 4.

The following is a summary of criminal incidents that were reported to the
Georgia State University Police over the past twenty four hours through
7:00 a.m., July 31, 1997
11:58 a.m. An arrest was made, on the charge of Solicitation of Sodomy, by
a university officer. An officer working in plain-clothes was
propositioned for sex in the men's bathroom on the fifth floor of Library
North. The offender was placed under arrest, processed, and transported to
Fulton County Jail.
11:58 a.m. An arrest on the charge of Sexual Battery was made by a
university officer. The officer observed an individual in the men's
restroom on the fourth floor of Library North. The officer went up to the
fifth floor and the individual followed him into the men's room. As the
officer walked past the individual he was grabbed in the genital area. The
offender was placed under arrest, processed, and transported to Fulton
County Jail.

Restrooms at JC Penney's Orange Park Mall, have signs all over stating
that undercover cops are patrolling the area for individuals using the
bathroom for any other purpose than what it was intended.

Playalinda Beach. This used to be a perfect place to cruise until the all
righteous county government decided to totally screw it up. Altough it is
a national park, the county decided to enact an anti-nudity ordinance to
protect all the people who don't even go to the beach. Although the
president of the nudist club says that there wasn't and isn't any sex
going on up there, he must have forgotten the blow job I gave him in one
of the portable toilets on the other side of the dunes. What was great was
everybody was nude which made the cock shopping easy. Don't even think
about cruising this area in the near future. The sherrifs department runs
through this place and makes regular arrrests.

and was quietly taken to a back office prior to being taken to jail.

suspicious, students included. They have arrested people for trespassing.

Marietta Police have made 30+ arrests in both Al Burras and Wildwood
Parks. The cops are using bike patrols, hidden officers in the woods,
decoys etc., and they are making arrests for indecent exposure, sodomy,
whatever they can. They are notifying spouses and making suspects take HIV
tests.

I-20 east bound rest area just past Sigman Road at Conyers. I live near
there and this rest area is under almost constant surveillance by the
Georgia Dept. of Transportation, the Rockdale Co. Sheriff's Department and
the Georgia State Patrol. The Ga. Dept. of Transportation has had several
undercover stings there recently and made arrests. I know two people who
have been arrested there.

and had to use the bathroom. Most stalls were occupied, so I took the last
one (handicapped stall). In the few minutes I was there, I was enticed by

knew teasing me, so I looked under the stall wall to see if he would
identify himself, but he did not. I finished and started to leave (at
which time he also left), and as I left the stall, he and a fellow vice
from the next stall, hand-cuffed me and I was arrested.

Bivens Arm Nature Park was the site of the arrest of two men yesterday.
They have been charged with exposing themselves to an undercover police
officer. The report has been in the Gainesville Sun newspaper this morning
with names and ages. It has been on the radio stations all day. Also,
yesterday as I drove past Bolens Bluff, another site frequented by gay
men, I saw a patrol car parked at the entrance. One might assume that
similar tactics are being used there.

the park. I haven't seen any arrests, but they do hassle guys.

Bay Bluffs Park & The Chimney are patrolled by undercover operatives. In
fact, the City of Pensacola has a huge task force that works just on this.
Undercover operatives are from FDLE, City of Pensacola, Navy and probably
every other armed service. Cops come in every shape and size to suit any
desire. They are wired for sound and drive un-marked cars, most often with
a DOD/Military base sticker. I have seen them step right over straight
couples going at it like dogs on the trail when working a queer.

The route 91 southbound rest area just outside of Northhampton is being
regularly patroled by state troopers who are taking down plate numbers and
harassing men who are out of their cars, even if only to stretch their
legs.
Weston, Massachusetts (July 14, 1997)
The Recreation Road area (intersection of Rte. 128 and Mass Pike in
Weston) has been the site of a combined crack-down by state police and
Weston police in recent weeks. On at least two different dates in June, as
many as ten men were arrested in operations involving plainclothes police
'decoys'. Some of the men arrested allege they were led on and effectively
entrapped by the undercover officers, before uniformed officers appeared
to arrest them. Some of the men have been charged with multiple felonies,
including open and gross lewdness and indecent assault and battery (sexual
touching of another person without consent.) On at least these two dates,
all of the men arrested had their names published in the Weston Town Crier
newspaper.
Revere and Lynn, Massachusets (July 14, 1997)
Revere Beach, Lynn Beach: We have also received calls in recent weeks of
arrests at these Beaches at night, with undercover police officers, again
raising allegations of entrapment. State Police have since said they will
discontinue plainclothes operations there and in all other state patrolled
areas, except 'as a last resort'.

At Belle Isle Reservation, East Boston, state police are patolling heavily
here, in response to what they say is an increase in complaints and
concerns about enviromental damage caused by off-path trampling. Again
some men have been arrested and hauled in for relatively minor violations
of MDC rules, such as trampling of vegetation or failure to obey.

San Jose Police have been harassing and arresting patrons of gay bars and
clubs in the Stockton Street area. They have been picking on single
individuals and seem to ignore those people in groups of two or more. Some
arrests have occurred. If confronted by the police call City Hall and ask
to speak to Frank Fiscallini, the city council representative for that
district and complain loudly, demanding to know what is going on in San
Jose.

Police patrol Lucky Shoals Park in their spandex shorts on bicycles after
parking their patrol cars in my neighborhood. They patrol about two or
three times a week with little predictability. When they make arrests
there, it sometimes makes the local papers.

Over July 4th, an attack was launched on guys cruising the famous dunes
and wooded areas east of bathhouse 6 at Jones Beach. A helicopter would
fly overhead, and radio any activity to cops evidently parked alongside
the Parkway, with binoculars, and the beach patrol cop on the 3-wheeler.
Cops from the Parkway walk through, chasing several persons right out onto
the beach.

Union Station management have recently engaged rent-a-cops to cover the
station and the washrooms. Peep holes have been covered with bolts and
washers, but few have come loose! I sat for a while, occasionally
observing passing traffic at the urinals, but decided to leave as a bulky

The Star-Ledger newspaper reported yesterday that about 400 men have been
arrested in the past several weeks for indecent acts, propositioning, etc.
in Bloomfield and Newark parks. They say that cops were stationed there to
attract solicitations.

cruisy. Recently, though, there have been MANY arrests! Police, uniformed
and plainclothes are watching carefully. They are questioning many who do
not appear to be students. and are actively timing and stopping guys who
are in the johns for more than a few minutes. I am a student who does have
legitimate business being on that floor, and I have been stopped for being
there "too often, too long". Those without valid UC ID's are arrested on
the spot. The rest are warned they will be arrested on the 2nd occurrance.

Today's Tampa Tribune reports of two busts this week at Rotary Park on
Fowler Avenue for lewd behavior in the men's rooms. The paper published
names and addresses of the "perpetrators" of said lewdness.

I just visited the food court tearoom at 17th & K. The restroom isn't
locked, but there is no action to be had. Three security guards for this
small place watched me like a hawk. Looks like this place is no good for
now.
Vancouver, British Columbia (July 9, 1997)
Canada Pacific Centre is the mall located in the Downtown Core. The
bathroom in Pacific Center is still very cruisy, but the mall security in
plain clothes have been going in and hauling people out. I have beeen
there several times over the last few weeks and have seen then wait for
men who are milling about. Some of the men are not discrete when jerking
off in the urinal area.

Rest area on Route 195. On Sunday, July 6 a state trooper parked his car
and went into the woods with a flashlight looking for people. I was lucky
to be in my car at the time, but I did see the officer running after
people and catching one guy. He and his car were searched. I took off
after that and I don't know what happened next.

University of Cincinnati. McMicken, Braunstein and Teachers College
bathrooms are being busted regularly these days. Three times in two weeks
guys have been arrested for indecency and trespassing, and one has already
been fined and sentenced to 60 hours public service. Guys caught doing
things and exposing themselves have been arrested. Guys caught without
valid student ID have been run off campus, fined, and had their names
published in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Police are cracking down on sexual activity at North Park. A local
newspaper recently reported three men were arrested for having sex. The
article said undercover cops will be patrolling the park, because
residents have been complaining that too many men were sitting in their
cars during the daytime.

Our local cops have finally tried to shut down the longtime cruising area
around the Aquatic Center, Burrard Bridge and Sunset Beach. The area now
has large floodlights set high above anyones reach, plus they have
completely removed all ground level shrubbery and trimming of trees so
that the lowest branches start at about 6 feet.

security men came in, discussing with another person if they could install

ready to patrol undercover the Cherry Beach & Leslie Street Spit area.
There is a bike trail (Martin Goodman trail) where some have complainted

Branch Brook Park, Bellville section. Cops have made 61 arrests in the
past 4 weeks. The park is being worked by an adorable undercover cop going
by the name Ralph. (His real name is Rich). He's in his early to mid 30's
and Italian. Say's he lives with mommy and daddy and can't go back to his
place, and will never get into your car. He will ask you what you're into,
ask you how big "it" is, and even lead you to a secluded area and invite
you to show him what you have, but you have to show first! He will wave
and grope himself to lure you, and is very, very friendly.
His partner hides in another area of the park. If you see a tan late model
car with FLORIDA plates, they're working the area. If you got the balls,
fuck with their heads. Tell them they act like huslers or bad undercover
cops. Pisses them off, they leave, and regular cars come in and patrol.

The local gay advocacy organization Ground Zero reports that police
activity in Palmer Park is very heavy, with over 200 arrests in recent
times for indecent exposure and related charges. The police have agreed
that anything a heteosexual can do in a park, a gay person can do. Holding
hands, light hugs and light kisses, etc., are OK but..if it gets heavy,
you're in jail. It is alright to ask someone to go elsewhere with you--but
not to do it there--say the police. Undercover police officer's will try
to bait you into groping them or yourself or to expose yourself. They also
watch activity with binoculars from adjacent, higher areas. You're history
if you do. We can argue about whether this is right or not--but that
doesn't change the facts. Courts have supported the police in all but two
cases. They do not give deferred sentencing--you will have a record--it
will, minimally, cost you a fine and, perhaps, result in jail time.

that's one thing, but just for being gay on Baker Beach? I doubt it.

I'm glad to finally see some positive news: it's not often that the police
help make things easier by tearing down those pesky walls and doors, but
to also provide security is outstanding!

Yeah, Rec/Park wrecked the park by cutting down the bushes. Now, it's
attracted street bums and the thousands of feral cats they feed. There
are no longer any songbirds at the west end of GG Park because the cats
got them all -- I'm serious. Also, the place is now a mess of hypodermic
needless, beer cans, and encampments. None of this was present when the
bushes were high and gay men cruised the place.
