%Title: Abrupt Lane Edge Issue 2
%Descr: *Chris went both to Spew 3 and the Wash on Marchington
(as he calls it), and reports on both events. Rumor has it that
Harry Hay was denied a spot at the beginning of the March on
Washington because he wore a dress. Chris rants about being told
you're ugly, learning to find your own beauty, and telling others
they're actually beautiful. A flyer from Red & Anarchist Skin
Heads from NYC speaks against homophobia and prejudging. An expose
of Robert Smith of the Cure's Partridge Family connection is a
shocker. Chris admits to a crush on Einar of the Sugarcubes.
Chris' friend Laurie rants about a punk show. There's a feature on
Xanthra and Jeanne, the gender queers who do the zine Gender Trash
>From Hell. And there's a story (by Laurie?) about a girl and her
girlfriend, who has a drug problem.

%Title: Ad/vance Issue 3-4
%Descr: +I might categorize this as a per-zine, except it really
isn't that personal. But it is a one-person zine, about Vance's
interests. Top ten list of obsessions (a different set in each
issue); an obsolete hobby -- making garments out of pop-tops;
memories of a Village People concert; Vance visits a poorly-
attended Angie Bowie book signing; quotes from Pat Montandon's
book "How to be a Party Girl." #4 includes the boast that Vance
knew lesbians were cool before the mainstream media; a rundown on
the history of the Chelsea Girl (not the Warhol film); a childhood
brush with fame, meeting Ann B. Davis, the Brady's maid.

%Title: Adventures of A-Girl Issue 2
%Descr: *At there beginning of the zine, there's a few one-page
comics with A-girl heckling Madonna, talking to a PC-woman about
mapping desire, and taunting PC-woman with her padded bra. After a
big picture of A-Girl wearing a cone-bra, the Tokyo adventures
continue. A-Girl eats dinner in a restaurant with the obnoxious
couple, tries to get the attention of a woman at the bar wearing a
uniform, wanders around the city, and has a conversation with
another westerner. There's a two-page comic called "The Lie," in
which A-Girl insists she's straight, while the art becomes
progressively more hard-edged. Plus some comix-zine reviews.

%Title: Adversary Issue 4
%Descr: Unlike most queer zines, which either are campy fluff
with a few porn pictures thrown in, or else too inarticulate to
say anything more than "yuppie gays suck," Adversary is full of
insightful commentary on homo culture. Orland attends the Gay Film
Festival, and realizes that movies have more power to affect us
than writing, and resolves to make a movie as powerful as The
Living End. There's an essay about the anachronistic
missaplication of "queer" when writing about historical figures.
In "Body of Work," Orland discusses the phenomenon of gay writers'
and artists' barechested publicity photos, and warns that the
beauty of art is more important than the beauty of the artist.
Plus more essays about memories of acting out the world's
atrocities with toys, large dogs as status symbols, and hanging
out at the baths listening to music in the early 80's.

%Title: And Now... I Devour You: (yum yum) Issue 1-2
%Descr: +One of these issues is actually called "Now I Swallow

themselves: "APA-Lambda covers gay/lesbian/bisexual issues in,
out, and around science fiction fandom. The current membership is
intelligent, literate, and thoughtful and certainly does not toe
the Politically Correct line. Lambda encourages original fiction,
critiques of pop, fannish, gay amd straight culture and other
creative writing. APA-Lambda is unable to honor requests for
copies to be sent to prisons or state hospitals." My favorite

%Title: Concerned Muthers Issue 1
%Descr: +This is a very strange and intersting zine. About half
of it is comix, and the rest includes an extensive interview with
a queer 17-year-old about growing up queer in fascist Britain. The
other long text piece is a sort of fairy tale about a girl who
gets married, but her husband is killed by a spider, then she's
put on trial for killing the endangered spider, but elopes with
her guard. The central piece is a lengthy comic about Max and the
Concerned Muthas. Velda's an insect creature, Dipesto's a cat-man,
and Max is a gay faery. They're trapped on another planet, wanting
to get back to earth. Meanwhile, Kal and Gobbledigook are in Hell,
and the angel Gabriel comes knocking on Rebecca's door. It's all
very strange -- it appears there's a war on between hell and
earth, and this odd cast of characters are caught in the middle.
The other stuff includes: Weird Twisted Girl gets a dye-job; a
strip about people who insist on "genuine" Docs; poetry; a
straight dream comic; androgny top 10. They hate Suede, by the
way.

issue than the recent maxi-issues, but there's still no shortage
of content. This one's headlined "RuPaul, the Media & the Gay
Connection: A Special Report" -- sounds like cashing in, and why
not, considering My Comrade's seminal role in the whole drag
renaissance. The report in question has charts of media
recognition of female impersonators, a secretly recorded phone
conversation between Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall about RuPaul, a
list of top grossing drag queens, homos, and transsexuals (why
isn't Wendy Carlos on this list?), a handy table to help you tell

stuff is from Dan's Sister Sin. What really is weird is the letter
reprinted from Bundle of Sticks #4, doctored to appear as though
it's written to Dan. And he even reprinted a paragraph of TEG's
response, only whiting out two words. If appropriation is an art,
this guy is a genious.

%Title: TeenMom Issue 5
%Descr: *This zine's a little hard to figure out. It kind of
looks like Tiger Beat, and talks about teen motherhood a lot. But
something about it betrays a definite gay sensibility behind it.
This is the para-military issue, and there's an article about
celebs getting rejected from the army. There's a piercing story
that warns of the dangers of Ring Link Syndrome. The Brawny paper
towel guy makes the list of two-dimensional hunks. Teenmoms can
read their kids the story of Rapunzelstiltskin. The jealous letter
from Sandy O'Conner, grrrl Supreme Court Justice to Prez Bill
about Ruth Ginsburg is worth a laugh. And there's tips on how to
keep those diapers un-dingy, and the story of a Thalidomide
Boyfriend. Did I mention the full-color cover?
