Along similar lines, I'm waiting for the next time some politician or

Somerville is good for two things, and both of
them are food shopping.

Besides harboring the closest Market Basket (the
one with the absolute worst parking lot), there's
also __________.

About six hours ago I was on LA's Main Street
briefly and it's not a pretty sight to see, not by a
long shot. Unless the sight of homeless
schizophrenic/drug addicted/scary-looking people
urinating and defecating on the sidewalk and gutters
in full view of the passing public during the day is
your idea of Mom's freshly-baked apple pie cooling
on the windowsill/Norman Rockwell American cheery
wholesomeness.

I've always imagined Toronto to be like that.

Main Street in Cambridge, while something of a thoroughfare by local
standards, certainly isn't the city's principal commercial
center. (Neither Cambridge nor Somerville, I note, really count as
"small towns".)

Oh, god, yes. I actually like that store once I get inside it, but the
first time I atempted to go there was on a Saturday afternoon, and
after spending about 10 minutes just trying to make my way *through*
the parking lot (never mind there being any chance of actually finding
a place to, you know, park), I gave up.

I was being a little too indirect there. There is, rumors tell us, a
video store of no great virtue near the Assembly Square Mall, so named.
And there is amusement inherent in conflating The Lifeblood Of Our Small
Town Middle Whatever with cheating salarymen "adopting a wide stance".
