Asks "When did a wedding turn into a party for and about the bride?"

From the article: "According to a founder of the Association of Bridal
Consultants, 43 businesses get involved in staging what she calls
;today's standard wedding; in the United States"

Avg price per US wedding: 27,852.
(And $27,849 of that is for the female, IMO.)

The average cost of a wedding is much greater than that - the groom
just doesn't realise it yet.

There's no gender equality without paternal certainty and 50/50
physical child custody.

I wonder if that average price is the mean or the median cost?
A half dozen of the Hollywood spectaculars could raise the
mean cost a couple of thousand dollars.

In this article about runaway brides, the median cost of
a wedding in Kansas is estimated to be $15-20,000--significantly
less that the average given above. $15K spent on an event
that totals only about 8 hours---including rehearsals, dinners,
and the reception is still a large chunk of change. I'm glad
my wife and I managed to get married for about half that
amount---and a large part of the cost was travel for out-of-state
family and friends.
