DRAFT
Cambridge Public Library
Board of Library Trustees
Minutes

A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on
Monday, September 14, 2009 at 6:30 PM in the
Trustees' Meeting Room, 449 Broadway.

The following members of the Board of Library Trustees were present:
Janet Axelrod
William Barry
Andre Mayer
Patricia Payne
Nancy Woods

Also present:
Susan Flannery, Director of Libraries
Bertha Chandler, Assistant Director for Human Resources
Marilyn Gagalis, Administrative Assistant

Minutes from the June 2009 meeting were approved.

Ms. Flannery informed the board that she had not received any
Patriot Act requests since the June meeting.

Correspondence was acknowledged from Celeste Bruno, MBLC, Marla
Erlien, Janine Maloney, East Cambridge Savings Bank, Olga Tugarina,
New England Historic Genealogical Society, Richard Rossi, Deputy City
Manager, James Maloney, Cambridge School Department, Alan N. Cote,
Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

A brief video was presented to the board by Ms. Flannery.

The subject of this video was the newly expanded Cambridge Public
Library and it was produced by students at CCTV.

Personnel updates were provided to the board by Ms. Chandler and Ms.
Flannery.

Building updates presented by Ms. Flannery:
The Collins Branch had received final approval on bids for
renovations.

The bids came in below what was budgeted, leaving funding for needed
projects inside the branch such as refinishing the floors.

The library is now closed and work has begun.

This project is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

In a discussion about the progress of the Main Library, board
members asked Ms. Flannery about the possibility of a cafe'.

The plan now stands that CRLS agreed to provide baked goods that may
be purchased at the library.

There will also be vending machines.

Details on what will be provided and what kind of machines will be
chosen will follow at a later date.

Nancy Woods, who volunteered to research ideas and prices for a
gift to commemorate the opening of the new main library, reported on
her findings.

She provided a prototype and color samples for board members and a
discussion concluded with a decision by the board to produce a history
of the item to be included with the gift.

Charles Sullivan of the Cambridge Historical Commission and Donald
York, former librarian at the Cambridge Public Library will be
contacted regarding this history.

Andre Mayer, Secretary
