An acquaintance is trying to find out more information about his
grandfather's role in WW2. His grandfather was a Royal Marine officer, and
told him that his unit was attached to an armoured squadron of Honey and
then Sherman tanks during the Desert campaigns of 1942 - 43.

>From what I can make out, the RMs were apparently used as specialist
infantry tank-killing squads, following or riding with the armour on foot
or
tracked carriers, deploying when German armour was encountered, and then
engaging it with PIAT rifles and small "trolley-mounted" AT guns.

I have not previously heard of these squads or of Royal Marines being
involved in the desert campaigns. Has anyone got any further information
about their role and these tactics? Many thanks.
