I'm all mixed up about the two criminal SS-Brigades, Dirlewanger and
Kaminski. Were both involved in the Warsaw uprising ? Which one disbanded,
and which one was surrounded and massacred by the Reds in 45 ? They're very
similar units and I'd appreciate any information on them..

Yes.

Dirlewanger's Brigade was supposed to be a penal unit supplemented by
poachers but ended up being filled in with common criminals. This unit
broke down in combat and ended up in looting and disorder. It was
disbanded and Oskar Dirlewanger was shot, as I recall.

Kaminsky's unit, wearing the "RONA" (Russian Army of Liberation) patches
to which they were not entitled, committed a variety of atrocities, but
not sufficient for them to be disbanded. They were simply an ineffective
unit. They were destroyed in combat in 1945,

Kaminski was killed by Germans in 1944. His unit was called RONA.
It commited crimes slaughtering civilians during the Warsaw
uprising of 1944.

Kamniski after the Warsaw insurrection ,where his troops were not beaten
in cruelty by any other, was shot to the order of Himler and the rests
of his unit were incorporated in the Wlasow army.
This incorporation is described as follows:
The rests of the troop reinforced the first division of General
Buniaczenko (600 Division of Panzer Grenadiers - not sure about correct
name translation) in the Wlasow army.
"From the wagons dumped a group of salvages, partly without weapons and
in various uniforms, with woman carrying jewelry. The officers could be
distinguished from soldiers by the number of watches: three to five.."

Verrats", Steingruben Verlag, Stuttgart 1952.

I have not read too much about Dirlewanger, but I do remember that
Kaminsky was the one that was executed by the SS for being a little
too good at his own job. Apparently, after Warsaw, he was getting out
of control and was ambushed, with his death staged as partisan action
or something like that.

Kaminski was half-Polish, half-Ukrainian, born in Poland. He was called also
Mieczyslaw.
