Trying to find information on the Civilian Defense organization in WWII.

They ( Who?) were responsible for Air Raid Wardens. Who was in Charge of the Civilian
Defense in the cities, country side, in the USA.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) was created by President Roosevelt
n May of 1941, well before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The U.S. had
seen the destruction in Europe after the fall of France in 1940 and the
danger of war became apparent. Mayor Fiorella LaGuardia of New York
City was appointed head of the OCD. He appointed First Lady Eleanor
Roosevelt as his assistant. The organization consisted almost entirely
of volunteers who took part in every phase of civilian defense from fire-
fighting activities to planes spotting, air raid drills, first aid training,
auxilliary
police work, the enforcementof blackout regulations, etc. OCD volunteers
also helped with natural disasters on the home front during the war. At
peak strength the OCD volunteers numbered in excess of 10 million.
