Hello All,

While Spring cleaning my mother-in-law's house, my wife stumbled upon a map
her father had showing the campaign of the VII Corps from June 6, 1944, to
May 9, 1945. Her father, David Bek McGuinness, was a private with the HQ
Co., 50th Signal Battalion, VII Corps. He apparently brought this map back
with him. My brother-in-law remembers seeing it as a child.

The map has for a legend: "VII Corps, J. Lawton Collins, Lieutenant
General,
U. S. Army, Commanding. 1:2,000,000. Passed by the Base Censor.
Compilation and layout by the Engineer Section HQ VIII Corps. Drafted and
Reproduced by the 663rd Engr. Topo. Co."

The map shows the paths the Corps followed from England, to Normandie, to
the Ardennes, across the Rhine, to the Elbe. Across the top the Divisions
in the Corps are listed as they changed and the number of German prisoners
taken at various intervals is given. Inset maps show the landing at Utah
beach and the Battle of the Bulge.

Apparently, this map was issued after the war and sent to veterans of the
unit. Is this correct? Were maps like this given to former members of
units? Is it possible to still acquire copies of this map? An archivist
friend of mine is trying to restore the map which was frayed around the
edges and rolled up for decades. My wife plans on making copies of the
maps
to distribute to her rather large family, but I am wondering if we can
still
get copies of the map from the government or the Army.

Thank you for any clues about this map. It is neat! It backs up
everything
my father-in-law told us about his experiences. Unfortunately, we did not
interview him in detail about his military life and he was hesitant to
volunteer details.
