H.S. Bhatia (ed.)
New Delhi: Deep and Deep Publications, 1976. Vol 1: xxiv, 206p.; Vol

First edition three-volume set. Hardbound w/ dust jackets. Some jacket
wear, otherwise excellent condition. The origin and development of the
legal and political system in India from ancient days through the
Mughal rule and British Raj is an untold story. Ancient and medieval
India's legal and political wisdom has remained clouded because of the
widespread notion that India was given a civilized rule of law and
sound political administration by the British. This pioneering and
remarkable three-volume set digs up a number of hidden landmarks in
the legal, political and military history of India, and projects them
in their proper perspective and importance. These volumes provide
rich, rare and authentic source material for a correct appraisal of
India's legal and political growth.

incredibly well-conceived outline of subject headings. The main body
of this work is followed by and author index and a very thorough
subject index. Most serious South Asia scholars keep this volume
within arms reach. For students and lay people venturing into deeper
study, this is the only bibliography you will need.

Commentaries on the Vedas, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita: The
Branches of India's Life-Tree
Sri Chinmoy

commentaries on the Vedas, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, three
ancient Indian scriptures which are the foundations of Hindu spiritual

profound and richly poetic. In a style unmistakingly his own, Sri
Chinmoy makes direct personal contact with the reader, who joins him

The Upanishads: Texts, Translations and Commentaries
Sri Aurobindo
Pondicherry: Sri Aurobindo Ashram, 1996. 466p. incl. Index.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4507701840
Softbound, new condition. This volume comprises Sri Aurobindo's final
translations of and commentaries on every Upanishad or other Vedantic
text he worked on. Sri Aurobindo began translating and writing on the
Upanishads around 1900--several years before he took up yoga--and he
continued this work for more than two decades. During this period his
interpretation of these ancient writings underwent considerable
development. For this reason, translations and commentaries done
before 1910 and those he did afterwords have been placed in separate
sections of this book. A third section contains incomplete and
fragmentary work from both periods. Since the organizing principle of
this volume has been the degree of perfection to which Sri Aurobindo
carried his work on each text he took up, the traditional order of the
Upanishads has not been followed.
