I would agree that it is not ethical to reveal personal information
about any poster, but this is unmoderated group, anything goes.

It all depends. If you are looking at these groups through a Google
account, be advised that Google does police the boards and information
beyond the name (addresses, etc), hateful and provocative speech can
and should be reported and Google would most likely intervene in not
allowing messages by this person into his servers. Outside Google,
other provisions may exist.

Whatever the "disrespect" (and it can only be verbal and usually goes
to the a persons intellectual capability), nothing excuses hate speak
(which is actually a crime), physical threats and the revelation of
any personal information beyond a name (and one should not do that at
all). One can "disrespect back" verbally all one wants, the Usenet is
full of flame wars. But if one crosses the line, one is open to
serious sanction and possible legal action as a recent case against
Google revealed.

Law enforcement will not get involved unless there is a clear specific
threat of violence, and the threat must have a modicum of

I run Window XP. The system you need to reach is behind a firewall
running Zonealarm. It also runs an IPS-1 engine, which is a
combination of intrusion prevention system (IPS) and data loss
prevention (DLP) software which I adapted to run on Ubuntu Linux.
To knock me out completely you will also have to corrupt all my backup
drives which are used in a round-robin fashion and connected to the
system only during the backup. If you leave any of those drives
intact, I can restore my whole system in about 12 minutes, a minor
inconvenience at worst.
Other than that I am wide open to attack.
