I have been asked to find a picture of George FRENCH or any of his family
He was born in Tortola in 1817, the son of Mark Dyer FRENCH, a barrister
who also served at one time as Registrar of the Court of Common Pleas of
the Virgin Islands. His brother was also Mark Dyer FRENCH

George FRENCH obtained a B.A in 1839, while up at Camrbridge University,
England, and an MA in 1842. His father died while he was there, leaving him
a relatively large sum of money. He qualified as a barrister in 1844 and
went on to become a Deputy County Court Judge for several years.

He was also Chief Justice of Sierra Leone from 1867 to 1876. and Chief
Justice in British Shanghai from 1877 to 1881. He died in Japan in 1881 and
was buried there
