Hi,
I am trying to find information on Sir William Herbert Greaves. He was
the Attorney General, and I think Chief Justice in Barbados sometime in
thr 1800's. If you have any information on him, his sons (of which I
think there were 2) or his forefathers, I would be grateful for your help.
I have been told that he was my Great Grandfather (Edward Austin
Greaves)'s Grandfather, but I am unable to find the name of his son
All help gratefully received,

Wayne Younge

Hello Wayne: Sir William Herbert Greaves (1857-1936) was Chief Justice
of Barbados from 1902 to 1925. To the best of my knowledge he had only
one son, and I do not believe that he had any children.

However, there are at least 4 different Edward Austin Greaves in the
Barbados records: It would help if you could give precise dates for your
great grandfather and I will be happy to check if this fits in with any
of my data.

I have seen no direct link between the family of Sir William & that of
the Edward Austins, although since the families all seem to originate in
the Parish of St. Lucy, they may very well be distantly related.

Well this is a pathetic contribution, but when I was in college I lived next door to a guy named Greaves and he said the name was Welsh.

Just as pathetic, because I cannot believe that you have not already done
this...

He also seems to be littered all over Ancestry, but I have not checked very
closely to establish more than the name and association with Barbados. I
have not looked in Find my Past.

Was William Michael, Herbert GREAVES a close relative?

Happy hunting

Marcos,
I love to read contributions such as yours. Sometimes it's the very clue one needs.

Cheers,
Laura
