Hello,
I am looking for any information from The Henry family from Jamaica. I am also looking for De Pass, particularly Sarah Ann me great grandmother. Henry family I am looking for Arnold and any other family members. My Grandmother Linda Maud was born in St. Ann in 1906. Some time later they moved to Kingston. I don't have any informationa s to when the move took place but I know that I still have family there.
I am also looking for a connection to my grandfather Hermon Lewison/Lewinson suppoesedly of Jamaica also. Since my mother didn't know much about her father I don't really even know if this is where he was from or whether he just decided to live toward the end of his life. My mother said that he worked on a ship and that he told her that he was going to Jamaica to live when she was about 10 years old. This would have been around 1946. I don't know what he did on a ship or anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sarah Ann

Hi Sarah Ann - this is what i wrote to someone else earlier today:-

Hi - dead easy! Go to the following site:-

_http://www.jamaicanfamilysearch.com/_ (http://www.jamaicanfamilysearch.com/)
, then scroll right to the bottom of the home page until you come to the
search area. Insert "Johns" and click search and you will find a list of 125
hits. Just as a taster, the heading of hit125 is"Families of Little London,
Westmoreland". Achieving these 125 headings cost you nothing.

To recover the content of the hits you need to pay a small subscription by
credit card to obtain a password. Last time I used it, I think that access for
one week cost around $8US, equivalent to about £4. I have used this
(expanding) site over a number of years and Patricia Jackson its owner, is extremely
helpful. I have about 25 hits for my ex Italian family of Arnaboldi.

Good luck. Brian, Bristol, UK

..................

In your case Sarah Ann, you will find 1001 hits for Henry, 8 hits for
Lewison and 681 hits for depass, but complicated by variations such as passed,
passports etc which are probably not relevant. Happy hunting. Brian.

I have gone to that website and paid the $8. I haven't found anything yet.

Hi Sara Ann, as I am sure you will appreciate, the surname you are searching
is also a Christian name. So far as I know, the search engine operates on
just surnames, but of course I cannot guarantee that. I have just done the

You did not say how much more you already know about the family you are
researching, so obviously, I cannot help you to identify relevant relatives or
otherwise. I assume you have already completed your tree back to their period in
Jamaica. If you find just one relevant record from the 1000+, then you will
have achieved that for half the price of one birth cert in the UK.

Happy hunting. Brian.

The family Henry are from former slaves. I don't know much more about them. My Great grandmother was Jewish and disowned by her family when she married my great grandfather. From some second hand info I know that my G-Grandmother's family came from Lebanon by way of Portugal. I haven't researched this yet becasue I don't know if this happened before her birth.
My Grandmother was born in St. Ann Parish in a town called Moneague. I would assume that her brothers were born there before the family relocated to Kingston.
My Great Uncle always told us that we were descendants of an African Prince. HOw to get this info I do not know.
Anyway, I will have to pay for the links that you sent me before I can see them.
Thanks for you help, hopefully you have given me some leads that will connect some dots.

Hi there,

I went to www.ellisisland.org and found a black Jamaican by the name
of Arnold James Henry who entered the port of New York in 1907. He was
born in St. Ann. Don't know if this helps. He was 36 years old in
1907. I have found ships' passenger lists very useful. It's amazing
how much people travelled back and forth to the US from the islands.

There is no subscription fee for the Ellis island site.
