My Great grandfather Emile Holstein of St.Croix married Candida Freily of
St.Thomas in 1886. She was 19 he was 25.
He was an engineer on the Royal Mail ss Taw when he died by drowning in
Grenada in 1906. She was left to raise eight children by herself in Grenada.
We know from their marriage certificate that his father was Frederick
Holstein and hers was Joseph Freily. Apart from that we know nothing except that
they eloped.
