Can someone advise me on how find the names of plantation owners in St
Vincent in the 19th century and early 20th century? I am especially
interested in the estate of Fancy. Thanks!

Best wishes,

I don't know of any list of plantation owners. I do know that the Owia Estate, which I believe is immediately adjacent to Fancy, was owned by Edward McIntire Beach, my great grandfather's brother-in-law, and managed by my great grandfather from the 1880s through the end of the 19th century. EM Beach may have owned the Fancy Estate as well, individually or as a partner. He and his brother and various partners owned Mt. Bentinck, Three Rivers, Dauphine, and I think one other during this time period.

I too am interested in Plantation Owners names...I am interested in the
deFreitas Families who had plantations around that time also...in St. Vincent
and Greneda. One of the Plantations is the Dougalston Plantation and Spice
Estate in Greneda originally owned by the DeFreitas family and latest ownd by
Sir Richard Branch of Greneda..........( still have been unable to locate
information on the Petronella Estate on St. Croix. family connection).....)

Thanks for all the hard work and help that you give to us...

The following site states that one Lester Richards owned the Fancy Estate for
some undisclosed period of time prior to 1944.

Hi Eric,

In the book entitled "An Historical Account of the Island of Saint
Vincent" by Charles Shephard there are several lists of the plantations
and owners of St. Vincent. viz.
- No. VI. A Table of the several Estates, with the Names of the Owners,
the Amount of the Produce made during the Years 1827, 1828, and 1829, and
the Increase and Decrease of Negros.
- No. XXa. References to the Plan of the Island, as published by John
Byers, in 1776. ( Lot Number, Original Purchasers, Number of Acres, and
Present Estates.)
- No. XXb. Lands leased to the French Inhabitants, distinguished by an
Asterisk annexed to the figure. (Same columns as above.)

Now only if we can find someone who has a copy of the John Byers plan of
St. Vincent published in 1776, many of our prayers would be answered!

Does anyone have lists of plantation owners, and island governors, in the
British Virgin Islands going back to the Dutch occupation in the 17th
century? Or, can anyone tell me how I might access such lists?

Thank you, in advance,

Following on from this thread, do any know of similar information in
regard to the Isle of Dominica? Particularly in the period 1820-50.
