Ann & Peter,
How very kind of you. My prayers go out to those in New Jersey, NYC, and especially Long Island.

I am temporarily in Southside Virginia (mid-state, near the NC border), and we got only 35 or 40 mph winds, which are gone now.

Do we have listers from Jamaica? Did Sandy give you a walloping?

Best to all,
Laura

Amen to that, Ann.

My wife and I have been following particularly anxiously Sandy's progress across New York City, where many Virgin Islander families are resident (e.g. on Staten Island)

My posts from a new e-mail address have not yet appeared, so I am reverting to my original one on this occasion

Hello from Bermuda.
I was interested when your email crossed my path.
Here in Bermuda we too have books printed by Hallett - BERMUDA INDEX A/K AND
L/Z - info taken from
old newspapers showing marriages, baptisms and burials all which are so
helpful
when it comes to genealogy.
Can you tell me please if there are any entries under the surnames:
SPENCER - ADAMS - GRAISBURY
My ancestors came from Turks Island and I've never been able to go back
further than my
Great-Grandparents: Ethelbert R. Spencer who married Ophelia H. Adams -
Grand Turk Island in 1867.
any help would be terrific.
Sincerely,
Judy Corday

I put your kinsman's unique-seeming name into Google books, and what popped up was an Ethelbert S who apparently had something to do with witchcraft in Elizabethan London:

http://books.google.com/books?id=BEfpkxNHR2oC&pg=PR16&dq=%22Ethelbert+Spencer%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ZXGQUKeUG4mG8QSGzYGQDQ&ved=0CCwQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22Ethelbert%20Spencer%22&f=false

Apparently, this man was from Ashford, Kent. Also, there apparently was an Ethelbert who was king of Kent.

Nothing at Castlegarden.org, but on Ellisisland.org, I found:
An Ethelbert Spencer, age 26, ethnicity Great Britiain/African, last place of residence British Guiana, arriving in 1924 on Ellis Island aboard a ship out of Trinidad.

Well, perhaps this info will link up someday. I have one of those fellows myself.

Sincerely,
Judy Corday
