Many thanks to all, and especially Christel, Heather & Hester for your very helpful replies re Johannes HEYLIGER: I am now certain just which one was the Governor of Berbice, namely Johannes, born 14 Oct 1734, Statia, son of Johannes HEYLIGER & Judith Simonsz
DONCKER: it finally clicked when I looked closely again at the pedigree posted by Heather and saw that he had married Jacoba GELSKERKE, who I believe must be the daughter of Hermanus VAN GELSKERKE, died Demerara 1742. Another daughter, Anna Gertruida VAN
GELSKERKE married Jonathan Samuel VAN'S GRAVESANDE, eldest son of Laurens Storm VAN'S GRAVESANDE in Demerara. I'll be happy to share what I have on the VAN'S GRAVESANDE family. (associated names: VAN BERGH EYCK/ BAKKER/ VAN DEN HEUVEL/ McRAE/ QUEIJSEN/
WIPPERMAN/ MARIENBURGH). Thanks again!

I've also some Van den Heuvel, Bakker, McRae (Mc. Cragh?) .

I'd be interested in what you have on the Van's Gravesande family .
Some Misses Gravesandes were present at the christening of Thomas
Cuming Bagot (my 3 x great grandfather) in Scotland in 1798.

I can only assume that they were friends of the mother Catherine
only daughter of Thos. Cuming of Demerara whom I've traced being in
Demerara back to 1796 when his signature was on 'the surrender of the
colony to his Brittannic [sic] Majesty's forces'.

Gertrude is a name that subsequently appeared in the family and I'd
like to try and 'work out' which of the Gravesande ladies might have
been present. It was a long way to go for a christening!

Many thanks
