Valerie Facey of the Mill Press in Jamaica advised me that Jacqui Ranston's
book "The Lindo Legacy" has recently been published. It was a private publication
and the book is, I understand from Valerie, presently unavailable.
However, were there to be evinced some serious interest in it, they might be able to
persuade the parties responsible for its publication to have the UWI Press re-print the
book.
Her letter to me was:-
Dear Richard,
In my opinion, Jackie Ranston's seven-years-in-the-works book, The Lindo Legacy is superb. Regrettably, it is not for sale. I will try to organize one for you. Do you have any other person/s who might genuinely be interested in receiving copies? I am trying to build a case for a REPRINT and am encouraging the SELLING of the book through the University of the West Indies Press. If I can produce some real numbers, this will bear weight.
Best, Valerie
Particulars about the book are as follows:-
THE LINDO LEGACY by Jackie Ranston
Pubished in 2000 by Toucan Books Limited, London (Private publication)
ISBN 1-903435-00-5
Hardcover Edition < 71/4" x 101/4" (185mm x 260mm) 144 pages
Seven years in the making, The Lindo Legacy is an extremely well written book with exceptional research and fascinating references. The edition is elegantly designed and has a most attractive, full-colour cover. This book will very soon take its rightful place as one of the important historical and literary documentations of Jamaica in particular and of Judaica in the world generally.

Is David Silvera involved in the Sephardic Newsletter ? I knew David's
Dad (Desmond) very well.
By the way, I had seen the name Monsanto as a Jamaican Jewish surname
very often as I transcribed (on to computer) the Jewish records for my late
school chum and friend, Ernest deSouza. I often wondered if there had
been any connection with the giant chemical company of the same name.
Is there ?
All the best,
Richard

Dear Richard,
Thanks. Who is Christel Monsanto, where is he and in what way is he
promoting Caribbean Art? You will recall that our daughter Laura is one of
the established artists of Jamaica. She has recently done an important
sculpture for the new Sculpture Garden of the Caribbean at the University of
Technology, Jamaica, at Papine (situated on campus). The sculpture has been
receiving international notice. Also Laura is presently represented in a
recently opened exhibition of Contemporary Jamaican Art, mounted by the
Nebraska Council for the Arts, now showing in Omaha but that will be
travelling for three years.
I would love to know more about this gentleman or is it a lady?
Best, Valerie
