I am researching the Francis and Riley family mainly from St.Catherine
Jamaica.
My Grandfather name is James Francis who married Brenatta Bradford. In the
early 1900's ( Redground, St.Catherine, I think). I just learnt that this was
James Francis second marriage, he also worked/lived in Cuba for some time.
Brenatta Bradford's father's name in William Bradford. Brenatta (white) is
said to be of German decent. She was called "MUM" by all the grand kids I
don’t know what it means. It is also said her Grandparents were Slave owners
who left Jamaica for England after one of the Slave Revolt or after slavery
was abolished. He (the Slave-owner) had all girls who stayed in Jamaica and
later sold the Plantation in St.Thomas or St.Elizebeth then moved to Kingston.
On my Mother's Side:
My grandfathers name was Joseph Riley who married Sylvena Francis, She was a
RN at Spanish Town Hospital (early 1900’s). Sylvena parents were George
Francis (from Cooked River, Clerandon) and Lydia Campbell (from Beckford,
Clerandon). I do not know Joseph's parents name. I think he is from Linstead,
St.Catherine. We think Joseph also had kids with a lady in Linstead. Wish I
could meet the offspring’s. Joseph was a STUD (- :
Joseph lived for 5 yrs in Cuba, it is also strongly believed he had a
family(wife/girlfriend and kids) there. My mom's name is "Lyn Seta" she
believes it was the name of his girlfriend or some-one famous in Cuba at the
time.
Also, he lived in Panama for approximately 10 yrs. It is known that he had a
family in Panama. May be he worked on the Panama canal. He later return to
Jamaica where he bought acres of land in Church Pen, St.Catherine.
If any-one is doing research on these families please let me know,
Thanks,
Lennox Francis, Son of Stanley Francis, Son of James Francis.
