Dear Listers:
These Marriages with names of both partners were extracted
from the FHC Film #1291704 Clarendon Parish Register Jamaica.
While I was doing my research, I had certain names in my head
for others who had requested it, some are my family tree
surnames, and the rest are just arbitrarily chosen. And, lucky
me I cannot organize them alphabetically without being
"sexist". So Here we go:-
Roger and Mary JACKSON m. July9,1696 Cr1-(Jackson & Jackson?)
George Kellit & Grace DAWKINS m.July 26, 1697 CR1-7Moses
KELLITT & Frances OAKES m. Aug13,1724 CR1-48
Solomon HART & Elizabeth HISUM m. 21 June 1717. CR1-38
Edward GRIFITH & Martha FLAVELL m.22Aug. 1739. CR1-84
Joseph FLAVEL & Elizabeth ROBOTHAM m. Nov 5,1725 CR1-50
>From this point down I will use the Jamaican/ British date
system D/M/Yr.(violating all gen. guidelines, and just give
the Folio as they are all extracted from Copy Record 1 i.e.
CR1.
Edward COLE & Elizabeth FABELL m. 25/3/1707
Thomas SHEPARD & Judith FLAVELL m.29/1/1720 F40
William FORTH & Mary HOWELL m. 22/1/1709 F23.
Robert HOWELL & Alice THOMAS m. 5/10/1724 F48
Joseph BONNER & Sarah WRIGHT m. 17/11/1722
John CONAVIS & Charity MATHEWS m.23/10/1728 F53
James FALCONER & Mary NIBBS m. 15/10/1736 F75
Jeremiah BAYNTON & Elenor LEONARD m. 16/6/1725 F50
William HEWITT & Sarah OAKES m. 22/10/1727 F53.
Richard WOLFE & Mary HUGGINS m.24/12/1730 F57
Edward PRATT & Elizabeth BRIDGEWATER m. 31/9/1747 F100
Thomas HAYDON & Charity HEWITT m. 26/5/1731 F59
Jeremiah GRAY & Mary HEWITT m. 26 May 1731 F59
George GORDON & Martha LEWIN m. 8/11/1740 F84
David YATES & Elizabeth FLAVELL m. 11/2/1742 F90
John GARDNER & Mary KELLITT m. 15/8/1748 F102
James SMITH & Ann HEWITT m. 30/3/1751 F109
John HEWITT & Sarah CAMMACK m. 25/4/1751 F109
William WOODWARD & Mary PHELPS m. 24/5/1754 F114

It's late so will complete it tomorrow D.V., with the
remainder being about the same size list as today. Where
spellings look questionable, like the variants of FLAVELL, I
underlined my notebook copy proving I double checked the
spelling. Yes , this one was really clearly HUGGINS Dorothy.

Marie SNAITH , I think I might have a breakthrough or
partially one for you, I found the burial of KIRKLAND, Juliana
Elizabeth in 1833 in Clarendon. however not certain if CR1 or
PR1 Folio 244. There are a number of SNAITH marriages 19th
century, but you need PR2, Parish Register 2(Film supporting
that) for the data. They were as Foll:-
SNAITH, John R. 1837; George M; Thomas B.; ?lbert??L 1838;
?jov??1859; In PR2-51;52;52;56; and 193 respectively.

If anybody out there has the FHC film covering Manchester PR4
Folio 107. I might ask a big favour. One Esther COHEN is shown
on that Liber & Fol. as baptised 15/5/1838 with no parents
given but parents abode given as Quebec. I cannot decipher the
name immediately below it , also with no parents name, but
also with parents abode as Quebec, her first name is Hannah
and the closest I could come to a surname was TRESVICE !!???
My dtr couldn't do any better, and the FHC neighbours hadn't a
clue either, this is another dilemma name like Flavell. The
writing seemed quite legible, but can't reproduce it with
certainty.TRESNICE?

I noted that RULE, ISRAEL; and RODON come up early in this
parish.
And coincidentally, a woman can't find her ISRAEL family that
was in England on Jewish.gen., alerting us to the wonderful
truth of the scattershot approach having some merit and
numerous successes, although it is not the way of a seasoned
researcher, a la roots web review recent article at the end,
very factually and fairly presented.

Mr. Ledgister if you are still watching the list, St Elizabeth
is full of LEDGISTER & LEGISTER's, I extracted a few for you.
I too have enjoyed the warmth and diversity of this list
immensely. Spicey too!

Anne thanks for the file you sent, new Jewish material
appreciated.
Joyce Falink, I did not see Alfred Philip or Hubert Isaac
WILLIAMS in Clarendon, but there were so many WILLIAMS 's
there it really slowed things down just checking. So many , I
can't guarantee. It is a very enjoyable film though, as it is
old, and variegated. Same for HUTCHISON. I only fine tooth
combed it for myself, and for the rest just tried to be
helpful where I could remember, or had the names on a list
with me.I stumbled into one of my elusive ggggrandmothers Jane
WEBB, marrying in 1840, but I need the film for PR3-159 to
confirm if it was to George SEWELL. I didn't expect her in
Clarendon, but it appears a few WEBB's were in Clarendon.
Ciao.

I do hope you will get some time to publish the above.

By the way I am following up on the information you sent me. I have
telephoned a couple people (Ledgisters) and they have given more leads. It
seems as my great grand father may originate from Lacovia in St Elizabeth.

Does the names 'Wilf' Ledgister, 'Will' Ledgister or 'Lou' Ledgister mean
anything to anyone out there.

In my search for Ledgisters, I met a lady from Lacovia who indicates that
she is COHEN and that her ancestors are Jewish.

Ken:
Sorry about the delay in replying to this.
I have reposted the St. Elizabeth extractions as a quote below.
Only "Will" LEDGISTER seems to be on the list if he is William.
I do recall there being some in Manchester also, but at that time I
didn't make extractions. In fact I don't think there is a "red dirt"
parish without them in the early records.

With respect to COHEN, I save all the COHEN's I am given in Jamaica, but
COHEN is a name like SMITH or BROWN, they abound . My COHEN's have
Montreal and U.K. connections, aside from the obvious Jamaican ties.

Glad you are meeting with some success. I ran across Paul LEDGISTER just
last week, and he rejoiced for you, that you are making some progress
tracing your lineage.

Best Regards, and wishing you success.
