MAJOR family DEVON, UK, 1750-1902
I am researching the name MAJOR. The main centre is CHULMLEIGH in North
Devon. After the death of a JOHN MAJOR in 1902 (at the age of 26) there
were no more records of either births or deaths. The family had moved away
after being associated with the area for 150+ years.

The family also had links with PLYMOUTH and EXETER and l have links in the
surrounding areas and elsewhere. There is a DAVID MAJOR (tailor) who appears
on the 1881 census living in Southwark (now LONDON), born in 1841 and MAJORs
found in CORNWALL are also linked.

If you have a Major connection, or know some one who has, please get in
touch via E-mail or snail mail at

This is my first time contacting this genealogy newsgroup. I am a native of
Co. Cork, Ireland., and I'm interested in finding people with information on
the Hickey name and specifically information on the genealogy of the Hickeys
of Millstreet, Co. Cork (Ireland) and Cullen, Millstreet and Cork City
areas. I am now a resident of Connecticut, U.S.A. Thank you for any input
anyone may have.

I'm trying to find information regarding the Gibney Family and the Hagan
(previously Gahagan) family. Particularly meanings of the Family Crest.
If anyone can help me, please E-mail me at jo...@sound.net
Thank you.
p.s. if this got cross-posted to a bunch of newsgroups that it doesn't
belong in, please let me know so I can figure out how to not do THAT
again!

Well, here goes the other family story! My grmother Isabella McKinnon Bell
(now 93), came to the US in 1907. It is said her grfather James BLAIR owned
a bakery in Scotland. One of his workers was angry and threw a fork at
James, taking out his eye.

Does anyone know of this family. Thanks.

Oh, yeah, I think I remember reading about that in the newpapers at the time.

Japhet, Noah's oldest son. The pedigree is from the "Four Masters" and
published in Irish Pedigrees by O'Hart, vol. 1 pg 44, so if it's published in
a book then it must be true.
It reads from number 1, Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared,
Enoch, Methuselah,
Lamech, Noah, Japhet, Magog, Baoth, etc., etc., to number 38, Milesius of Spain.
From there it goes on to all the Milesian Irish genealogies.
