I'm trying to find information on my great
grandmother, Jane Stokes nee Turner.

I have information on her life from 1873 onwards when
she married my great grandfather, William Stokes.

Jane Turner was born around 1853. On censuses she
said she was born in either Cradley, Herefordshire or
Lulsley, Worcestershire. Lulsley is where she lived
when she married. However, no record of a baptism in
either parish.

On her marriage to William Stokes at Leigh church,
Worcestershire she says her father is John Turner, a
labourer. (Does not say whether he was deceased or
not, but neither does it say deceased about William's
father who died in the Crimean).

I've brought a number of birth certificates from the
GRO but all are incorrect. There is always the
possibility that Jane was illegitimate (another
ancestor gave her grandfather as her father!).

Jane was not baptised in Leigh and I've searched a
number of parishes around the area.

If anyone has a record of a Jane Turner born around
1853 and also any record on the 1861 and 1871 census,
I would be extremely grateful.

Family legend has it that Jane worked at the Red Lion, Stiffords
Bridge, Cradley, Herefordshire when she was younger.

Jane died in 1930 aged 77 in Court Cottage, Alfrick,
Worcestershire.
