Hello,

I am researching my Irish ancestors John McCarthy, b. 1817? in
Ireland, who married Ellen Langley, b. 1811-1813? in Ireland. It is
possible John changed his surname to CARTY to avoid religious
persecution. They emigrated from Ireland because of religious issues,
not famine - we've always been told. Their son, John McCarthy was born
June 30, 1847, possibly onboard ship to America. His birthplace is
recorded as Albany, NY, USA.

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
