Can anyone tell me where "Luggan" is? I suspect Cornwall as the parents
list that as their birth place. They then list (on this NZ birth cert)
their marriage place as "Luggan". The writing is fairly clear but there are
no other capital Ls to compare against.

I can't find it on my atlas, nor on the gazetter off the genuki home page.

Thanks in advance,

Victor Paul, Christchurch, NZ. email: v.p...@netaccess.co.nz

Paul, I'll bet a bunch you're looking for the Parish of Illogan in
Cornwall. It frequently is pronounce "luggan".

Both my mother, a JORY, and my father , a MURLEY/MORLEY, were born there.

It's on the Notrh side of Cornwall, about 2/3 of the way to Lands End.

"Luggan" is how an indigenous resident would pronounce ILLOGAN !!!

If you place Camborne as the bottom left-hand corner of an equilateral
triangle, with Redruth as the bottom right-hand corner, and Portreath as
the top point... (line between each would be 4-5 miles) ....
then... Illogan is about a third of the way down from Portreath
....towards the base of the triangle!!!

Hope this helps

Could be Ludgvan (near Penzance) or possibly, based on the sound,
Illogan, which is north of Redruth. I'm a firm believer in the sound of
a word being more important than the spelling.

Victor,

This sounds like Illogan, pronunced 'illuggan'

It is a parish to the North and East of Camborne.

Thanks for this and the many other responses I got. I have found what
appears to be the correct idex entry for the marriage of the parents on the
birth certificate in Redruth district - so I guess "Luggan" = Illogan !
