The death occurred at Westland Hospital on saturday of Mr. E. Markland, a
respected resident of Hokitika for many years.
Born in Shornley, Lancashire, England, 71 years ago, deceased resided in
New Zealand for the last 38 years. He was
employed in the NZ Railways for a short period, and worked for the AMP
Society for 26 years until his retirement. He
served in World War I with the British Forces. Besides his wife he is
survived by one daughter, Mrs. R. Mackrell (Lower
Hutt), two sons, Neville (Tapanui), and Jeffrey (Upper Hutt), another
son, Roy, was killed while serving with the RAF
during World War II.
