LEMIEUX Thomas; St. Edwards ,ON,CAN>Menominee ,MI,USA>SD,USA; b. 1849

I am seeking information about my great-grandfather, Thomas LEMIEUX.
According to the family Bible, he was born on September 16, 1849 in St.
Edwards, Ontario. He emigrated to the United States (Menominee,
Michigan)
sometime before 1874 because he married my great-grandmother, Mary
DONNER, there in 1874. He and his family later moved to South Dakota.

In doing some research, I cannot find a listing in the Ontario
historical information for a town or village named St. Edwards.
According to my mother, the entire town was burned in a fire and so all
birth/death/marriage records were lost, but this may just be one
of those family legends. I did find a listing for a town called St.
Edwards, Manitoba so
maybe I'm just searching in the wrong province.

Any information on Thomas LEMIEUX and his family (father, mother,
brothers, sisters)
would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance for any responses.

This is a little off your question, but the early history of the Lemieux
that I have, indicates that there were two brothers who came to Canada in
1643, from the parish of St Michel de Rouen. The brothers were Pierre and
Gabriel. Their family were barrel maker. In 1647 Pierre married Marie
Besnard. Pierre settled in lower town in Quebec City, which is today
number 38 Petit-Champlain st. Gabriel I understand went back to France in
1666. One of Pierre's son Guillaume who married Elisabeth Langlois in
1669. More than likely the Lemieux of North America are all descendants
of these two. Good luck.

Hi,
I was looking at two books in Chapters Book Store today and discovered two listings for St
Edouards in the province of Quebec. Try that province. Actually in 1849 present day Ontario and
Quebec were called the province of Quebec.Good luck.
