KOEHLER Frederick / SMITHER Caroline; DEU to MI,USA; 1835-1890

This is my first posting and would appreciate any help or direction.
Frederick Koehler was born @1835 to Paul (?) and Julia Koehler. He married
Caroline Smither, daughter of Jacob and Mary Smither. Frederick, Caroline
and 6mo old son Frederick Jr. sailed from Bremen in 1861 to New York. They
were Methodists. I am trying to locate the area in Germany where they lived.

Sally, you might also try joining the Koehler email list. Here is part
