SCARF/SCARFE/SCARFF/SCARFFE/SCARIFF/SCHARF
Contact is sought with anyone who has any knowledge of the SCARF family
name in Ireland or any of the identified spelling variants which have been
identified in the period 1560 -2000. Present day relatives in Baunreagh,Old
Leighlin, Co.Carlow use the spelling SCARIFF.

Locations where this family name have been identified are.....
Stranorlar, Co.Donegal.
Armagh & Strabane, Co.Tyrone.
Londonderry, Co. Derry.

Galway, Co. Clare.
Killarney, Co. Kerry.

Coolcullen & Moneenroe, Co. Kilkenny

Dublin, Co.Dublin
Boystown, Co.Wicklow

The main place where members of this family have been located is the
vicinity of Castlecomer,Moneenroe,Coolcullen in Co.Kilkenny and the
adjacent border area of Baunreagh and Old Leighlin in Co.Carlow. They have
been positively identified in this area from 1750-2000.

James Scharf lived at Coolcullen, Co.Kilkenny, circa 1818.
Thomas Scharf lived at Castlecomer/Moneenroe, Co.Kilkenny, circa 1785.
Thomas Scarf lived at Boolyvannanan (Bolivan), Co.Carlow, circa 1798.
John Scarf lived at Old Leighlin, Co.Carlow circa 1785.

I hope to identify the places of abode of identified family members before
1800 or to discover additional/missing members of this family.

Most of the family migrated to Canada circa 1820 and adopted the spelling
of SCHARF. Later members migrated to Australia circa 1850 and adopted the
spelling of SCARFF and SCARFE.

I particularly seek any information to link the Co.Kilkenny/Co.Carlow group
with the movements of the group who lived in Co.Donegal / Co.Tyrone area
circa 1800-1850.

I have identified members of this family from R.C.B records for the Mothel
Church at Coolcullen, Co.Kilkenny. Some of the family were Roman Catholic
and most were Church of Ireland.

Any clues would be appreciated.
