I have been searching the www for the surname Pokusa. When I punch it into
a search engine I get hits from all over eastern europe. I haven't been
able to translate them. There are many sites with Serbian interests, as
well as Polish and Slovak content. Does any one know if this is a common
word in the slavic languages?

Any help is appreciated. Please post replies to group.

In Croatian language (also Serbian), "pokus" means experiment, test
and "pokusaJ" means attempt. "Pokusa" doesn't mean anything.

Thanks for the info.

According to the old folks we are from Slovakia. Could the word mean the
same thing there too?

In Polish its mean: temptation. It is common word not archaism.
