Actually your answer is in your first example "when ill", it refers to
the Washing away of sin, (extreme unction) that can and is given any
catholic who is near death.
It may be performed by a priest or civilian, but is not considered to
be an actual baptism (God parents/parain/marain are not usually
present).
It is however, still considered an actual ceremony.
