What part of rootsWeb and what type of problems are you having. I've
been using RootsWeb WorldConnect Global Connect all day long without any
problem.

Can not view their web pages directly, but can view them through an
external proxy.
Can not send or receive emails (various lists) from them, but webmailers
work aka subscribe message gets a confirm. The mailer lists a lot of
resets by the various rootsweb servers on a pile of collect messages.
Trying to determine if these are connected.

If you can see a web site with a proxy and not from your ISP,
then the problem is likely with your ISP or a virus in your
browser. To eliminate the later case, try with a different
browser.

You can try with a gmail or similar account.

Nope, it isn't the browser.same problem on various machines.

Oh god no. I want privacy. In any case that isn't a solution, just a work
around.

contacts in Australia; it began about 3 weeks ago. We get
e-mail from there nagging us to send something, but we've
sent it (up to 27 times in one case), they're just not
getting it.
Worse, I've got return-receipts saying they've opened the
mail they say they haven't seen.
Something is very peculiar west of the Dateline.

Look I know Roots Web is about SEX and DEAD SEX at that, but surely not

We are talking quite a few lists I subscribe to (surname and regional)
and I already have the filtering set up.
The privacy is a comment on google.

Go with Hotmail in that case (while as for privacy, I am not sure
it is better...), or try any small similar email provider which you
just don't know. I remember on my previous ISP, some technician
put a photo of a gorilla with my name under it and another folk
posted me the URL. Yup, it was my local ISP... So, if you don't
use encrypted email, there is no one you can trust in that aspect.
And we are in genealogy. There are, in some countries, large
databases with millions of recent data. Some is available online
(obits for example, with a list of children).

I just had a frantic phone call from one of my
recently-mentioned contacts. Since she's not as tech-savvy
as she'd like to be, she didn't understand a lot of what she
was told by her ISP, so couldn't relay meaningful details,
but in essence, she's been told there's a virus loose in
Australia on "the main line". She was told to have a tech
come to her home to ensure her machine was virus free before
the "main line" came back.
IF she correctly reported what she was told, terryc could
actually have a WHOLE lot of irate users who think he's
ignoring them.
I don't see anything about it at slashdot, though.

Doubt it; my problem began abt the time the black-list was
first active. MY guess is that's the problem, not a virus,
no matter what the techs told my contact.

Well, working again and all I can relate it to is mtu on the adsl modem.
Seems a few sites, like rootswem.com, alkahazam.com don't like shortened
mtus and other sites can not handle longer mtus.
