Searching documentation on a German line
apparently starting on or near the Bodensee Isle
of Rugen, present day Germany, formerly East
Prussia, Merklingburg-Vorpommern...
The Island of Rugen is connected to the
mainland town of Stralsund by a long bridge.
Name probably originating with a small village
called Kransdorp/f, or "Village of Cranes" where
the great white birds stop-over on their twice-yearly
migrations, north or south, selon the season...
cf:
The village of Kransdorf shows up on local records from 1318 on;
the nearby (beautiful) cathedral of Bergen dates 12th century.
Kransdorf Hof is in the dept of Altegefahr, parish of Jarkewitz, &
is recorded as supporting 6 farming families with several homes & buildings,
most gone now; parts of early walls subsist & archeologists have found
vestiges of old cellars, etc... the present day "town" consists of one large
19th cent. 3-storey house & several large but delabrated
farm buildings, a few small tourist cabins for summer visitors, etc;
The main building houses a social project for the reinsertion of the
socially-handicapped, organized as a self-supporting collective farm.
As I'm having difficulty finding anyone locally who'll actually answer letters & queries,
I hope someone on the list has access to local records for the area, such as:

The line so far:
Tho the town goes back to 1318 on records (perhaps earlier, off-record)
the earliest surname variant of Kransdorf found so far is:
1. Claus Krantzdorp, b. 1587 Stralsund, his son (1)
2. Hanz Krantzdorff, b abt 1600, in Gingst on Rugen, m. Frl. Greta Korff, of Ralswiek, Gelieswald parish, Rugen (2)
3. Hans Kransdorf, b abt 1620, in Stralsund, m. Frl. Bootsmann, (1)
(Stralsund, on the mainland, is only abt 10 km=7 miles from Kransdorf Hof, parish of Jarkewitz, on Rugen Island, where still
stands a famous Kransdorf Windmill)
4. missing gen b abt 1640, m abt 1660
5. missing gen b abt 1660 m abt 1680
6. missing gen b abt 1680 m abt 1700
7. Dietrich Kransdorf, b abt 1700 m abt 1730 who perhaps
changed his name Cransdorf/Crantzdorf/Grandstaff (3,4)
(as recorded in Ancestry files probably taken from a book on
the Entsminger family cited below) This sort of spelling change
is a precedent repeated later near Trier, when Wilfried's grandfather
Wilhelm Kransdorf changed to Gransdorf, (a village was founded
of that name) to differentiate his line from another cousin of the
same name (6)
8. Johann Bartholomeus Kransdorf/Crantzdorf/Grandstaff , (3,4)
b 1732-1752...migrating to Philadelphia marrying a descendant
of Entsinger's in York Co, Pa... ) & dying at 20 years, apparently
without issue...
This Johann Bartholomeus Kransdorf is about coeval
with a theoretical brother or cousin, b abt 1750, & remaining in Prussia,
with 5-6 sons b abt 1775, most of whom scattered to form the lines we know
as ancestors to the modern lines... probably in military service in the Napoleonic
Wars --
1. Trier in Germany (Wilfried's line), 2. Odessa (Moses' line),3. Kiev (Ron's & Lawrence's Tchernowitz line), 4. Moldavia/Romania
(at least 3 different sons or siblings lines : Morritzio, (Dr Mark's line) Mercaz, & Wolf/Zeev's; pehaps also Al's mother Shendala
Kransdorf's line...). & Perhaps others yet to be found...like : 5. Aldo Kransdorf's Naples, Italy line, descended from an unkn. E.
Prussian line... Those who remain in Germany converted to Catholicism, others leave Prussia -- before abt 1800, as Moses Nahum
Kransdorf was born in Odessa in 1805. (about 30 Kransdorfs in modern phonebook)

York, PA a descendant of Peter Ensminger/Entzminger : book

Peter Entsminger (b abt 1694, migrated to America 1733, settling in Pennsylvania, whose descendant married Catharine Trautman in
1791 with 6 children). Later his brothers and sisters migrated to America also, descendants settling in Pennsylvania, Maryland,
Virginia, Ohio & elsewhere...his ancestors include a Philippe (b c 1666) son of Phillip (about 1639-1712) son of Jacob abt
(1600-?) son of Adam (b abt 1570-?) -- & his descendants include marriages to Crantzdorf, Frey, Philippi, Schmidt, Trautmann...
This record is found under families related to all of these surnames, in the Mormon LDS Genealogical Centrer online, & also in a
book cited above. (This is probably Dietrich & his son Johann Bartholomeus Kransdorf/Crantzdorf/Grandstaff, found in LDS
Ancestry.com files...)
