In this will, the testatrix names her parents, Sir John la Ware and
Joan his wife, who were then living; her brother Sir John la Ware; her
sisters Katherine Breweus and Margaret, and one Robert Breweuse. She
asks to be buried with her ancestors at Swineshead Abbey
[Lincolnshire].
Given the material in the archives about Brewes/Braose and Bacon
connections, is anything else know about this lady or her family?
Was she an additional [presumably second] wife for Sir Edmund Bacon of
Ewelme (d 1337), whose other marriages were to Joan Brewes nee
Beaumont and to Margery Poynings (who survived him)?
MA-R
Elizabeth la Warre was an otherwise unknown daughter of John la
Warre, 2nd Lord la Warre (d. 9 May 1347) and his wife Joan de Grelle.
Her brother John, named in her will, died in their father's lifetime
(before 24 June 1331): by his wife Margaret de Holand, he was father
of Roger, 3rd Lord la Warre (d. 27 Aug 1370), ancestor of the Lords
Delaware (West family). Elziabeth's sister Katherine was the wife of
Robert de Brewes of Akenham (dsp 1325), both of whom were alive and
mentioned in this will.
An interesting will; as you mention in your other post, there is
a great deal of interesting (and sometimes helpful) information in the
many wills printed by Gibbons.
Cheers,
John
Many thanks John for such an informative response.
Best wishes, Michael
