Just thought some others might find it interesting in this episode of Finding your Roots:
http://www.pbs.org/weta/finding-your-roots/tragedy-time-comedy-full-episode/14750/

They found that Bill Hader descends from William Farrar of Virginia and breifly mentioned/showed the gateway ancestry to royalty.

I did find it interesting they referenced the link to King Edward I rather than Edward III however.

This is very interesting. I didn't see this particular show but that's amazing. William Farrar was my father's ancestor as he was to many other Americans.

I thought the link to Edward I (via his daughter Joan of Acre) came somehow through his early Maryland family connections? (Where my same line from Edward comes from) It was sort of unclear on the show.

William Farrar has about three lines from Joan of Acre through his great grandmother Isabel Girlington. He has about two through his great grandfather Christopher Kelke and one to Edward III. These are all viewable on Leo van de Pas' website at genealogics.org if you either enter my name "Stephen Riggan" in the search box or just enter "William Farrar." John Ravilious, another descendant of William Farrar, has done the extensive research on our family line and you can find a lot that he has posted in the soc.gen.med archives as well.

Yeah, exactly, not sure why they didn't show the line to Edward III, not that it really matters, just curious.

Yup, we talked a little while ago (I guess it was 1-2 years ago or so). We have separate lines of descend that happened to land in Dallas Co., Arkansas.

Turns out Bill Hader is a distant cousin as well. Have always been a fan of his, he was very humble on the episode as well. Definitely recommend the episode and the show as a whole.

The latest Finding Your Roots episode reveals yet another Farrar cousin. Neil Patrick Harris, probably best known for playing Doogie Howser.

In this episode Gates does a whole segment on William Farrar specifically (centering around him arriving in 1618, the massacre that flowed, and the drama surrounding his marriage to Cecily).

Surprised Gates didn't point out to either Neil or Bill that they were cousins via William Farrar. Of course maybe he did and they just didn't show it (though they tend to do include that footage when they do).

Does anyone know the direct line from Neil Patrick Harris to William Farrar?
