The following is (contrary to the Subject: line) the AT for Christina
Rodriguez, daughter of El Cid, and thus also provides the ancestry of
his wife. I have made an attempt to use modern references when
available. I have not repeated any individuals who also appear in the
Teresa AT I posted a few months ago. This I will also repost shortly.

I will take this opportunity to mention that a recent article of Salazar
Acha, addressed the in-laws of Christina, and concluded that contrary to
what has appeared, her father-in-law the infante Sancho Garces was NOT
the same as Sancho Garces Mazeratiz, and thus did not marry a second
wife Endregota (a descendant of the Queen of Navarre of that name), and
was not father of her children. This directly contradicts (corrects)
ES. Likewise he argues that Sancho's wife Constance was daughter of
Queen Estefania of Navarre, by an otherwise unknown first husband (prior
to her marriage to Garcia Sanchez).

A. Traditional sources call the Cid's wife, Jimena Diaz, the daughter of
Jimena Alfonso, dau. Alfonso V. This is clearly incorrect since
Jimena's brothers specifically call their mother Christina. In near
contemporary documents, Jimena Diaz is called "neptis" of Sancho II (and
Alfonso VI). In order to preserve a relationship, Menendez Pidal
instead makes Jimena Alfonso the wife of Fernando Gundemariz, the
grandfather of Jimena Diaz, Cid's wife, citing the tradition of a
relationship, as well as nomenlcature. I have been unable to find any
contemporary source which names a husband for Jimena Alfonso, nor record
of a Jimena, wife of Fernando Gundemariz. Saez discusses a document
which names the wife of Fernando G, Muniadona Ordonez. Based on the
sources I have available, I am forced to reject this placement of Jimena
Alfonso. A descent is still possible, however. The parents of
Christina are unknown (Menendez Pidal makes her daughter of Fernando
Gundemariz, but only because Jimena Diaz was his granddaughter, and
there were two other incorrect parentages assigned to Diego. Salazar
argues convincingly that Diego was Fernando's son). Who then were
Christina's parents? Her name is an unusual one in the area, and
immediately reminds one of Christina Vermudez, only child of Vermudo II
by his first wife, Velasquita Ramirez (and hence half-aunt of Jimena
Alfonso). I think it not unlikely that Christina, mother of Jimena
Diaz, was descended from Vermudo II, explaining the near-contemporary
tradition of a royal relationship. (There is an identifiable Christina
who is contemporary with, and perhaps identical to the wife of Diego
Fernandez. She was grandaughter of the Infanta Christina Vermudez, and
was named Christina Alfonso, perhaps leading to confusion with her
cousin Jimena Alfonso. While I have no direct evidence for the
relationship, she is the only contemporary Christina I have found. I
have provided her pedigree below.)

B. That the Lain Fernandez, son of Fernando Lainez who appear in the
traditional ancestry of Cid is the same as the brother of the founder of
the famous Lainez family (whose descendants include Fruelaz/Cifuentes
and Osorio) appears in Vajay, based on the unpublished work of Salazar
and Masnata. It is not possible to appropriately evaluate this
connection until the arguments on which it is based are published. (The
same holds for the linkage of Lara with the Counts of Castile, and the
reconstruction of the early generations of the Munoz/Nunez family of
Castile. At least one connection shown in this source, a muslim
descent, has proven chronologically impossible.)

C. Traditional sources, followed by Menendez Pidal make Gundemaro
Pinioliz the son of Piniolo Jimenez. Since Gundemaro died in 1011/2,
while Piniolo did not die until 1049, the chronology is problematic.
Without discussing the matter, Salazar shows Gundemaro as uncle of
Piniolo Jimenez, son of his maternal grandfather Piniolo Gundemariz,
which in clearly correct.

D. This is the pedigree supplied by Saez Sanchez. However it makes for
short generations. I suspect that instead this generation should be
Ramiro Menendez, uncle of Ramiro Gonzalez, and #118 below.

E. This identification is derived from the Vajay chart of the early
Castilian counts. In this chart, Tigridia Diaz is not specifically
shown as daughter of Diego Munoz and his wife Tigridia, but it is clear
from the nomenclature and arrangement of the chart that such a
connection is likely (that the chart was supposed to show this). The
name Tigridia is diagnostic of a descent from Diego Munoz and his wife
Tigridia, and was used by Salazar to identify Urraca, wife of Count
Sancho Garces of Castile.

F. He is not the same as # 66.
