Looking for information on John de Valletort, father of Hugh de Valletort
early 14th century.
This information is from the Visitations of Somerset of which I've already
been warned can often lead one astray. The Valletort name is footnoted to
a book (or author) refered to as "Collinson II, 134" I've also seen the
name as "Vautort"
The line goes as follows:
1. John de Valletort
2. Hugh Valletort = Lucy
3. Julian, dau. = Godfrey Lyffe
4. Richard Lyffe = Margery, dau. of Sir Matt. Stawell
5. Amice Lyffe b. abt. 1360 = Sir Baldwin Malet (his second marriage)
Any advice on dealing with the visitation records and on these lines in
particular would be greatly appreciated
Regards to all,
Jen Herron

The Vautort/Valletort line you asked about was seated in Somerset. This
line has a hitherto unnoticed descent from Charlemagne through a Vautort
intermarriage with the Columbers family. The Columbers wife had a Courtenay
mother who in turn descends from Isabel de Vermandois. Probably lots of
people have this line in their ancestry, but, you never see it cited, as no one
knows of the Carolingian connection. Hope this helps. Douglas Richardson
