There was some confusion based on information from a number of books
and websites about earlier Lockes/Loks but I think I have unravelled
some of the truth from the tangle of misinformation.
It looks as if William's father may be Thomas Locke who is said in a
variety of online places to have married a Joan or Joanna Wilcocks and
appears to be his accepted father but there may need to be another
generation to get back to the earlier mercer John Lok who died in
1463.
John Lok's Will mentions that he was survived by 3 sons and 3
daughters. One of these sons died under age and I think it is probably
a son called John
22 Oct., 3 Edward IV. [A.D. 1463], came John Alburgh, Robert Twygge,
John Broun, Richard Syffe, mercers, into the Court of the lord the
King in the Chamber of the Guildhall, before Thomas Cook, the Mayor,
and the Aldermen, and entered into bond with Robert Colwych, the
Chamberlain, in the sum of £308 for the delivery of a certain sum of
money and jewels to the Chamberlain for the time being, to the use of
William, son of John Lock, the same having been bequeathed to the said
William by his father or accrued to him by the death of John his
brother.

According to the Will of John Lok that leaves a son called Stephen in
addition to the William. There is no mention of a Thomas. So I think
it is probable that Thomas may be a later son of the William and so a
grandson of John Lok.
The Will as can be seen from the synopsis mentioned in that google
book reference above, also shows that John Lok the mercer was the son
of a Richard and Agnes Lok of Dalling in Norfolk.
I have gathered information on a family called Lok who were also cloth
merchants in Kings Lynn (or simply called Lynn) and I suspect they are
earlier generations but I can't find confirmation of this in online
documents.
If anyone would like a copy of all my gatherings and evidence about
this family please contact me and I will send the attachment.
Best wishes
