Complete Peerage 2:17-18 states that William Bourchier, Earl of Bath, b.
1557, married "Elizabeth, 2nd da. of Francis (Russell), 2nd Earl of Bedford,
by Elizabeth, da. and h. of Henry Long."
CP 2:75-6 contains the biographical notice of Francis Russell, 2nd Earl of
Bedford. He is given two wives: (1) Margaret Waldegrave and (2) Bridget
Hussey, widow of Sir Richard Morrison and Henry Manners, Earl of Rutland. No
mention is made of a wife Elizabeth Long.
It appears that the entry under William Bourchier is in error and that
Elizabeth was the daughter of Francis Russell's first wife, Margaret
Waldegrave.
I checked Chris Phillips' website on corrections to the CP but did not see
anything listed for Bath. I do not have vol. XIV at hand. Does anyone know
if there is a correction listed there?
Any ideas where Elizabeth Long came from? Any comments or direct evidence
bearing on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Hal Bradley
Does anyone know if this is corrected in vol. xiv?

First wife was Margaret St John, daughter of Sir John St John and
Margaret Waldegrave, CP II p 76.
Doug Smith
Elizabeth Long was married to William Russell, 1st Baron Russell of
Thornhaugh (Betham's Baronage, letter of Sir James Long, 2nd Baronet),
who was a son of Sir Francis Russell and Margaret St John.
William Russell was the father of the 4th Earl, another Francis
Russell (CP II: 333).
